Alvin Gross WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - H. Alvin Gross, 90, died on April 4, 2001 at his home in White River Jct. He was born on Jan. 4, 1911, in East Richford, Vt., a son of Walter and Alice (Durkee) Gross. Alvin attended school in East Richford. He worked farming and logging all of his life in various places and in White River Junction since 1971. He married Mildred Carson on Aug. 5, 1950, in Poland Springs, Me. He was an avid horseman, working both with horses logging and competing in horse-pulling. He also enjoyed hunting and telling stories. He was predeceased by two sons, Coleman and Walter Gross, and a stepson, Kendall Marceau. He leaves his wife of White River Junction; four daughters, Allison Childs of Quechee, Vt., Millie Murgida of Brattleboro, Vt., Opal Bronson of Jefferson and Sandra Montgomery of Mt. Holly, Vt.; four sons, Douglas Gross of Holton, Me., Malcolm Gross of Hanover, Me., Calvin Gross and Neil Gross, both of Jefferson; a stepson, Glendon Marceau of Peacham, Vt.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fanny Mortiere of Colchester, Conn. A graveside service will be held later in the spring in the Hartford Cemetery in White River Junction. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Alliance of Vermont and New Hampshire, 20 South Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05001 or Hospice of the Upper Valley, 325 Mt.
