Lake KINGSTON - John C. Lake, 75, of Danville Road, died on April 8, 2001 in Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, after a period of failing health. Born in Chelsea, Mass. on June 26, 1925, he was the son of Hedley H. and Edith P. (Barrett) Lake. He lived more than 40 years in Kingston. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He survived the sinking of the USS Luce, DD-552, after a kamikaze attack off the coast of Okinawa on May 4, 1945. He received the Purple Heart. Mr. Lake was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Maple-Wheadon Post 4479, Raymond. In addition, he was a member of Plaistow Fish and Game Club. He was married 50 years to Dorothy W. (Komenda) Lake, who died on Oct. 23, 1999. Family members include a daughter, Lucy Johnson; two grandchildren; two stepsons, Stanley Haywood of Exeter, and Fred Haywood of Kissimmee, Fla.; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Lake of Arizona, and Bob Lake of Webster; and three sisters, June Logan of Port Charlotte, Fla., Ann Lake of Reading, Mass., and Ruth Mailhot of Colebrook. Calling hours are today (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. in Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
