Lurvey, 92, of North Stratford, died April 11, 2001, at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown after a long illness. Born Sept. 7, 1908, in Bloomfiled, Vt., he was the son of Alfred and Anna (Small) Lurvey. He was a 1927 graduate of North Stratford High School. He married Lurline G. Smith on June 12, 1931. He farmed from 1929 until 1932 when he went to work for the St. Regis Paper in North Stratford. Over the next 43 years the business changed ownership to include Plunkett & Webster, Granite State Veneer, Plywood Products, Brown Company, Allied Wood Products and finally Diamond International. He retired from Diamond International in 1975. He was a long-time member of Knights of Phythias. Mr. Lurvey was known as someone who could fix anything. He enjoyed gardening, reading and astronomy, and was a loving father, grandfather and husband. In addition to his wife the family includes four daughters, Cora Hemenway of Largo, Fla., Mrs. Ralph (Stella) Stillings of Rochester, Mrs. Ed (Pat) O’Neill of Middletown, Del., and Mrs. Colin (Lillian) Noyes of North Stratford; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Lurvey of Portsmouth; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours and the funeral are private.
