Gray Mariam E. Gray, 87, of Columbia, died on Sunday, April 1, 2001, at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Gray was born on Jan. 27, 1914, in East Hereford, Que., the daughter of the late Burton S. and Alice (Hibbard) Owen. Mrs. Gray was employed for several years as a cashier for the Red and White Store and also a waitress for Howard’s Restaurant. She was a member of the Nulhegan V.F.W. Ladies’ Auxiliary, Post #5243, North Stratford, and a member of T.O.P.S. #104 of Colebrook. Mrs. Gray played the piano for the Colebrook Opera House and also enjoyed playing for many weddings in the area. Mrs. Gray is survived by the following family members: her husband, Richard Gray of Columbia; two sons, Roland Martin of Colebrook and Owen Martin of Worcester, Mass.; a daughter, Carol A. Perkins of Columbia; three stepdaughters, Roberta Langis and Kathleen Gray, both of Milford and Marsha Wardwell of Concord; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was predeceased in death by her brother, Hollis Owen. Calling hours were held on Tuesday at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Kathryn McGregor will officiate. Committal services will be held later in the spring.
