Richardson LUNENBURG - Marguerite Bessie (Dodge) Maxfield Richardson, 92, died on Monday afternoon, April 30, 2001 at Country Village Eldercare. She was the first-born child of Harvard and Eva Davidson Dodge on Dec. 24, 1908. Marguerite married Lesle E. Maxfield in 1926 in Tunbridge, Vt. and they moved to North Hartland, Vt. in 1945. Divorced in 1959, Marguerite graduated from Russell Sage Junior College in Albany in 1961. In 1962, she married Charles T. Richardson of Marlborough, where she resided until his death in 1970. She then made her home near her youngest daughter and family in Hartland until moving with them to Lunenburg in 1986. She was an active member of the Holstein-Friesian Association for many years, attending many state and national conventions. She also wrote many articles for the Holstein-Friesian World Magazine. Marge, as she preferred to be called in later years, was a passionate square dancer and caller. She attended many square dance conventions and workshops all over the U.S., including Hawaii. She also traveled extensively in the 1960s and 1970s to Mexico, Europe and Peru. She compiled and wrote her memoirs, which she had published in book form in 1997. This overview of her very active life is available to any who whould be interested by contacting her daughter, Lorna, in Lunenburg. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She leaves her children Elizabeth "Betty" Frary of Tunbridge and Brooksville, Fla., Louis Maxfield of North Hartland and Fort Pierce, Fla.;, Marjory Conley of Tavares, Fla., Robert Maxfield of Quechee, Vt., Bernice "Bunny" Aldrich of Rougemont, N.C. and Lorna Eaton of Lunenburg; three stepdaughters, Priscilla Yardley of Marlborough, Ellie Adams of Westmoreland and Thelma MacKenzie; 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, her brother Edgar Dodge, one son Richard Maxfield, and one grandson Thad Lesle Eaton. There will be no calling hours or service at this time. There will be an open house at the Chester Eaton residence at Auburn Star Farm, in Lunenburg, on Saturday, May 12 from noon to 4 p.m. Burial will be in Tunbridge at a date convenient for the family.
