Smith, 54, of Milford, died on April 2, 2001 in the Hospice House, Merrimack, after a battle with cancer. Born in Woodsville on June 14, 1946, he was the son of Lionel Smith of Center Haverhill, and the late Genevieve (Beamis) Smith. He lived the past 30 years in Milford. Mr. Smith worked 23 years for Francis Connor and Son Construction Co., Nashua. He also worked for the Milford school district as a groundskeeper. He was a member of the Milford Horseshoe Club. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his father, family members include his wife of 32 years, Susan (Wheeler) Smith of Milford; a daughter, Monica M. Smith of Tryon, N.C.; three brothers, Ronald H. Smith of East Ryegate, Vt., Terry A. Smith of North Conway, and Wayne M. Smith of North Monroe; and two sisters, Linda E. Gooden of Whitefield and Brenda L. Jewett of Woodsville. Visiting hours are Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford. A graveside service will be held in Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill, at a date to be announced.
