Harrigan, Publisher "All the news that fits" FORMATTED: by CParziale, June 2001 ***************************************************************************** Barbara Ellms BRETTON WOODS - Barbara "Bea" (Kaufmann) Ellms, 45, died May 21, 2001, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Born in Boston, on June 29, 1955, she was the daughter of Jane (Rosenthal) Kaufmann of Westwood, Mass., and the late Robert Kaufmann. Raised in Belmont, Mass., she lived in Bretton Woods. She graduated from Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Me. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Boston College. Mrs. Ellms developed an early interest in emergency medicine working for ambulance companies in the greater Boston area. She later rose to become the first woman paramedic in the city of Boston, where she worked in emergency and rescue. Since 1987, she worked for the Massachusetts General Hospital in the emergency room. Mrs. Ellms held registered nurse’s licenses in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She was a member of the National Ski Patrol and patrolled at Alta, Utah, Ragged Mountain in Danbury, and Bretton Woods Ski Area. In addition to to her mother, family members include her husband, Chris Ellms of Bretton Woods; a son, Benjamin McPherson of Wakefield, Mass.; two stepchildren, Christopher Ellms Jr. and Jen Ellms, both of Bretton Woods; a brother, Paul Kaufmann of Saratoga, Calif.; and a sister, Victoria Katz of Newton, Mass. A memorial service was held on Thursday in Stickney Chapel, Bretton Woods.
