"Joe," Houle, 75, of 4 State St., Groveton, died on May 2, 2001, at Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster, after a brief illness. Born on Feb. 11, 1926, in Waterville, Maine, the son of Joseph A. and Sarah (Pinette) Houle, he was lifelong resident of Groveton. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church, the American Legion Post 17 Groveton, and the Loyal Order of Moose, Groveton. He loved to drive around and see the scenery. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. He learned barbering while in the Navy, then was a barber and owned his own shop in Groveton for over 50 years. Mr. Houle is survived by two daughters, Barbara Brunet of Biddeford, Maine, and Sharon Houle of Escondido, Calif.; two granddaughters; five great-grandsons; and one brother, Frank Houle of Massachusetts. Calling hours were Saturday at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home, 59 State Street, Groveton. Funeral services were private, with the Rev. Daniel Deveau, pastor of the St. Francis Xavier Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Northumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the American Diabetes Association, New Hampshire Affiliate, Inc., 1001 Elm St., Suite 106, Manchester, NH 03101; the disabled American Veterans Chapter 8, in care of Gary Roy, VFW, 1107 Main St., Berlin, NH 03570; or the New Hampshire/Vermont Hospice, in care of the Visiting Nurse Alliance, Old Court House, 46 South Main St., White River Junction, VT 05001.
