JOHNSBURY, Vt. - Marie Claire (Prevost) Maurice, 80, of St. Johnsbury, died at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon on Friday, May 4, 2001, after breaking a hip on Good Friday, three weeks ago. She was born in St.Johnsbury on Aug. 1, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Marion (Bisson) Prevost. Her husband, Germaine "Jimmy" Maurice, died on May 19, 1993. She worked as a telephone operator for New England Tel &Tel, and was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. Claire and Jimmy shared a love of music which expressed itself in their participation in the parish choir and local musical theater. They met through the Notre Dame des Victoires Boissonault youth club. Their greatest joy was always their home and family, a tradition she continued after Jimmy’s death with her daughter Sue, residing together at their Pleasant Street home. She is survived by four children, Lucille Maistros of Havre de Grace, Md., Raymond Maurice of Bradford, Vt., Richard Maurice of Street, Md., and Susan Maurice of St. Johnsbury; five grandchildren; two sisters, Cecile Smith of St. Johnsbury, and Irene Cantin of Lancaster. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Charles Prevost and Raymond Prevost. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial followed the Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
