Day, Jr. Model T enthusiast, avid sportsman Charles E. Day, Jr., 73, of 3 Beverly Lane, died March 23 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. Born in Ipswich, MA on February 3, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ruth A. (Corliss) Day. Mr. Day moved to Dover as a youth from Ipswich and has resided here for 63 years. He was a graduate of Dover High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Day was involved in milk transport for 20 years and also managed Somersworth Bus Transport. He was also employed at Blackberry Hill Farm Equipment and at East Eliot Garage. A member of the Strafford County Fire Wardens Association, he was a Model T enthusiast, avid sportsman and member of the Dover Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Goldie E. (Morrill) Day whom he married in 1949; one son Donald and his wife Lois Day of Dover; two granddaughters, Karen Malasky and her husband Rick of Newmarket and Jessie Day of Dover and her fiancée Eric Lenzi of Barrington; great grandchildren, Timothy and Kasey Malasky of Newmarket; one sister, Flossie Hunt of Dover; four brothers, Everett Day of Barrington, Lewis Day of Rochester, Fred Day of New Durham and George Day of Dover; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Amy Hall and Mildred Chambers and two brothers, Herbert Day and John Day. Funeral services were from Tasker Funeral Home in Dover with The Reverend Kenneth Monahan of the Dover Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery. Willard Alvin Goss Father of Dover man Willard Alvin Goss, 75, of 3 Grady's Lane, died March 25,2001, at Dover Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 07, 1925, in Franklin, the son of Frank and Lillian (Braley) Goss and predeceased by his wife Leona (Walling) Goss who died March of 1999. Mr. Goss was a resident of Brentwood for more than 18 years. He later moved to Bradford, VT, resided in Franklin for two years and more recently moved to Dover to live with his son. He was a lifetime member of the VFW of FrankJin. He was an active member of the Public Service bowling team for many years. He retired from the US Navy in 1970 and after retirement was employed as a material comptroller at the Seabrook Power Station for Public Service retiring in 1992. He is survived by one son Wayne Goss of Dover; one daughter Mrs. John (Suzanne) Joy McKay of Bradford, VT; one brother Frank Goss of Dover; one sister Norma Surette of Port Riche, FL; and five grandchildren. Arrangements were with Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, Dover. The Reverend David L. Slater of the First Parish Church, Congregational officiated. John D. Nichols Veteran John D. Nichols, 71, formerly of 158 High St., Somersworth, died March 20,2001 at the Riverside Rest Home where he had resided for the past three years. He was born December 4, 1929 in Spartanburg, SC the son of Zolly and Beunie Nichols. A Cook by profession, John worked at various restaurants throughout his career. He was a veteran, having served his country with honor and pride. He is survived by his wife Carol E. Marshman-Nichols of Dover, a son, David Allen Nichols, two daughters: Melissa Nichols-Baker and Janet Nichols, and a grandson: Tyler A. Nichols all of Portsmouth. There were no calling hours. A memorial funeral was Monday, April 2 in the activities Room at Riverside Rest Home in Dover. Arrangements were with Tasker Funeral Home in Dover. J. Carlyle Rogers WWII Veteran, businessman, musician J. Carlyle "Carl" Rogers, 87, of 72 Old Rochester Road, died March 24 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Born in Manchester on April 29, 1913, he was the son of Joseph A. and Viola (Lucas) Rogers. A graduate of Manchester Schools, he moved to Dover more than 60 years ago. For more than 50 years he owned and operated J.C. Rogers Company, here in Dover, an advertising specialty company and supplier of flags, flagpoles and calendars. A 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and a very talented musician, he was a former member and past- president of the Dover Lion's Club, past president of the Hammond Organ Society and life-long member of the United Commercial Travelers. He is survived by a son Paul A. Rogers of Dover; two grandchildren, Jennifer Spradley of Gainesville, FL and Mary Hicks of Deering; three great-grandchildren - Rebecca Spradley, Philip Spradley and Pauline Hicks and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel V. Rogers who dies February 3, 2000, a son, Philip Rogers, who died in 1960 and two brothers - Norman Rogers and James Rogers both of Manchester. Funeral services were March 28 from the Tasker Funeral Home in Dover with The Reverend Deacon Ginny Slawnwhite officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Carl's name to a charity of one's choice.
