Chase Machinist Robert B. Chase of River Road, Standish, Maine, died May 24, 2001 at a Portland Hospital. He was born in Dover, son of David Chase and Sylvia Goodwin. He attended South Berwick schools. He lived in South Berwick for 30 years and then moved to the Waterboro/Limerick area. A 1st Class Machinist for 25 years, he was the founder and owner of two businesses: Chase's Quality Homes, from 1989 to 1994, and Top Notch Machining, from 1996 to 2001. His interests included playing pool, golf and tennis. Surviving are his mother Sylvia Johnson of South Berwick, a daughter, Kim Fogolio of Waterboro, three brothers; Steve Lincoln of South Berwick, James Lincoln of Dover and Stanley Johnson of West Hartford, CT., a sister, Judy Lincoln of South Berwick and his close friend and companion, Karen Norton of Limerick. Services were from the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home. Interment is in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Kenneth R. Stowe Veteran Kenneth R. Stowe, 78 of 22 Vine Street died Monday April 2, 2001 at the Homestead in Kittery. Born in Milton, New Hampshire on July 19, 1922 the son of Merle L. and Amy (Williams) Stowe. He graduated from schools in Milton with the class of 1940. He has lived in South Berwick for 48 years, and since his retirement had wintered in Mytrle Beach So. Carolina. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II having served in the So. Pacific with the Seabee's. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Rollinsford Post #47 American Legion. He was also a member of the Fraternal Lodge #71 of free & Accepted Masons of Farmington, NH. Prior to his retirement in 1984 he was a 34-year employee of the General Electric Co. of Somersworth, NH where he was a supervisor and marketing specialist. He was as member of the General Electric Down East Retirees Association. Kenneth also served on various committees in the community and had served as a bail commissioner. He was a member of the First Parish Federated Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Phoebe (Smith) Stowe, two daughters Charlotte S. Hamill of Whitman, MA, Deborah S. Smyth of Portland, ME, a granddaughter Catherine Hamill, two grandsons Craig W. Smyth and Scott B. Smyth, a niece Merle Cook and a grandniece Amy Cook. A memorial service was at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St, So. Berwick, ME. John N. McLaughlin Poet, gardener John Neil McLaughlin, 80, of 199 Berwick Rd., (PO Box 501), Berwick died Thursday May 24, 2001 at his home after a period of failing health. Born in South Berwick on July 6, 1020 the son of Frederick and Alice (Swazey) McLaughlin and has live in Berwick and South Berwick area all of his lifetime. He did custodial work and was a former employee of a South Berwick Schools, the Somersworth Schools, and the Dover Schools, also for the Kingston Manufacturing Co. of Newfields and for the former Roberts Shoe Co. He was currently employed at the First Baptist Church in So. Berwick. John was a writer and wrote poetry and was a correspondent for Foster's Daily Democrat for a short time. He also loved to garden. He was a lifelong faithful member of the first Baptist Church of South Berwick where he was a member of the choir and also secretary/treasurer of the Men's Group. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years Alma (Field) McLaughlin of Berwick, three daughters Kathryn Somers and her husband Stan of Northwood, NH, Judith L. McLaughlin of Biddeford and Sandra L. McLaughlin of Berwick, a brother Charles McLaughlin of North Berwick and a sister Annabelle McLaughlin of So. Berwick and nieces and nephews. Two brothers Frederick McLaughlin, Clayton McLaughlin and a sister Natalie Goodwin, predeceased him. Funeral services were at the First Baptist Church, Main St., So. Berwick with Pastor Tim Wagner officiating. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery, So. Berwick. Arrangements were with the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St. So. Berwick. Hahn, 97, formerly of South St.. died Monday May 21, 2001 at the Riverside Rest Home in Dover. Born in Rollins ford of February 29, 1904 the daughter of Mark and Exilda (Martel) Theoret and has lived in this area all of her lifetime. She was beautician having worked in Durham and Rollinsford. The widow of Albert J Hahn former Rollinsford Police Chief who died in 1961 she is survived by a son Richard L. Hahn, two granddaughters and cousins. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Elaine Ricker, two sisters, Sr. Mary Paschal, Sisters of St. Joseph and Julia Vermette and by a brother Frank Theoret. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Mary's Church, Church St., Rollinsford with Father Thomas Coover, pastor as celebrant, officiating. Burial followed in New Town Cemetery. Arrangements were with McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., So. Berwick, ME. Eileen R. Rogers Longtime resident Eileen R. Rogers, 76, of Rochester, died Friday May 18 at the Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Rochester. Born in Boston, Mass., September 10, 1924 the daughter of William Parker and Mary Green. Eileen has lived in Dover and Rochester for many years. She has survived by three daughters, Regina Labrie of Berwick, Maine, Laurel Treamer of Manchester and Gloria Chamberland of Concord, seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchilder. A graveside service was held at St. Mary Cemetery in Dover. Arrangements were with the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. David Toof Active in VFW, D.A.V., Legion David Toof, 50 of Dover, U.S. Army, Retired died May 21, 2001 in Dover following a long period of failing health. He was born in Dover, October 5, 1950 the son of Arthur S. and Julia (Armstrong) Toof and attended Dover schools. David retired from the U.S. Army in 1971, where he had been a Tank Commander. From 1970-1971, he served a tour of duty in Viet Nam. Prior to his illness, David was active in the Dover V.F.W., D.A.V. and American Legion. Members of the family include his wife: Kathleen A. (Watters) Toof, his son: Jackson Christopher David Toof both of Dover, his mother Julia Toof of Somersworth, A brother: Arthur S Toof, III of Barrington, his sisters: Patricia A Barnard of Dover, Linda L Hancock of Pembroke and Sandra A Bonneau of Dover, also, several nieces, and nephews, aunts, and cousins. Funeral services were private. Arrangements were with Tasker Funeral Home 621 Central Avenue, Dover. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
