DeForrest, 91, of 369 Main St., Union and a summer resident of Belknap Point, Gilford, died Sunday March 4, 2001 at the Wentworth Home in Dover. The widow of William DeForrest, she is survived by a son, Dr. Edward DeForrest of Union, a sister Elizabeth Michaels of Somersworth, several nieces and nephews including Richard Michaels of Somersworth, Marsha Miller, Betty Hussey, Janice Demerritt, Charles Roy and Kenneth Roy all of Rochester, and Phillip Roy of Mt. Vernon, Washington. Graveside services were held June 16 at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somersworth. Arrangements were with the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Avenue, Dover. Rose Marcotte Longtime resident Rose George Marcotte, 89, of 195 Dover Point Road, died June 14, 2001, at St. Ann Home. Born in Rollinsford on August 30, 1911 the daughter of Assad and Martha (Anton) George. She had lived in Brockton, MA for 18 years and has spent most of her lifetime in Dover. The widow of Joseph Marcotte who died in 1963, she is survived by a daughter Joan S. Antone of Dover, three grandchildren, Linda Holmes, Lisa Lawson and Michael J. Antone all of Dover; six great-grandchildren, Raymond and Maria Holmes, Rachel and Joseph Lawson, Kayla and Michael Antone, Jr.; a sister-in-law Myra George, all of Dover and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary Church with The Reverend Thomas Coover, chaplain, St. Ann Home, officiating. Burial is in St. Mary New Cemetery. Fowler ‘Dick’ Gove Veteran, deep-sea diver Fowler “Dick” Gove, 69, died Monday June 4, 2001 at the West Houston Medical Center. Born in Hartford, Vermont on September 11, 1931 he was the son of Ernest Jackson and Celena (Bilow) Gove. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Martel-Roberge Post #47, American Legion of Rollinsford. Dick was a commercial deep-sea diver and worked internationally for various oil and gas companies and more recently was self-employed as an inspector for oil and gas construction. A devoted husband and father he is survived by his loving wife Jeannette (Caouette) Gove and a daughter Pamela Gove, two sisters Jean Hurt and Theresa king all of Houston, Texas, a brother Ernest Jack Gove of Pompano Beach Florida, a sister-in-law Mrs. Roland (Aurore) Hebert of Dover, two brother-in-laws Joseph E. Caouette and Omer Roland Caouette both of Rollinsford, and nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary Church, Church St., Rollinsford, with The Reverend Thomas Coover as celebrant. Burial with military honors followed at New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford. Arrangements were with the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main Street, S. Berwick, ME.. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dick’s name may be made to the CENTER, (serving persons with Mental Retardation) 3550 West Dallas, Houston, TX 77019. Ann V. Davis Devoted great-grandmother Ann V. Davis, 85, of Henry Law Drive died Tuesday June 12, 2001 at the Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a period of failing health. She was born in Dover July 2, 1915 the daughter of John F. and Mary-Ellen (Steenson) Sullivan. Ann’s parents were born in Ireland, her father was born in Keady, County Armagh, Northern Ireland and her mother was born in County Cork, Ireland. Ann was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Dover; she was very devoted to St. Jude. Ann graduated St. Mary’s Academy and St. Mary’s High School, Dover. She retired from Clarostat Manufacturing after 34 years. Ann had also been employed at Pacific Mills. Ann was very devoted to her family, especially her great-grandson. In 1993 Ann traveled to Ireland to meet her family there, while there, she climbed Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney Stone. Members of her family include: her husband Albert H. Davis, whom she married September 25, 1937, her daughter: Betty Davis of Rochester, her grandson and his wife: Glenn and Tammy Macdonald, and great-grandson: Ryan R. Macdonald, many nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins in Ireland. She was predeceased by siblings: John F. Sullivan, Daniel J. Sullivan, Donald R. Sullivan, Robert W. Sullivan, Mary T. Quint, Eileen C McLin and Patricia L Lessard. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial is in St. Mary’s New Cemetery, Dover. Blackadar St. Thomas teacher Captain Paul Frederick Blackadar, USN (ret), 71, of 13 Morgan Way died June 10, 2001 at his residence after a period of failing health. Born January 14, 1930 in Somerville, MA, he was the son of Frederick and Ina (Wagner) Blackadar. Paul graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1948 and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis MD, Class of 1952. While at the Naval Academy he was involved with the Glee Club, played handball and lots of bridge. After graduating, he attended Submarine School in Groton, CT and served tours abroad the USS Spikefish, USS Trigger and USS Sea Robin. He was Commanding Officer abroad the USS Threadfin. Upon completing tours of duty at the Pentagon and on the staff of the Commander and Chief, Atlantic Fleet in Virginia, he retired and returned to New Hampshire. He earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire and taught high school Physics and Chemistry at St. Thomas Aquinas. He retired a second time to devote his full attention to fishing, golf, and his family. Throughout his life he was known for his integrity, wisdom, phenomenal memory and a boatload of common sense. He had a calm, gentle disposition; slow to anger. He will be missed. Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Ellen “Peg” (Peregoy) Blackadar of Durham; three sons, Peter Blackadar of Hillsborough, NJ, Sam Blackadar of Guam and Thomas Blackadar of Natick, MA; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Elizabeth) Stull of Ringwood, NJ; nine grandchildren and one brother, Walter Blackadar of Rochester. A memorial service was held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 28 Cataract Street with The Reverend Anne Robertson, pastor officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue, Dover. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032 or to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society. Wilma L. Sowerby Teacher Wilma Lila Sowerby, 87, formerly of Littleworth Rd in Dover, died Saturday June 9, 2001 at Langdon Place. She was the wife of the late John Sowerby. Wilma was born in Dover on September 9, 1913. She was the daughter of the late William Hall Roberts and Lila L. (Burgess) Roberts. Wilma graduated from Weelock College in Boston, MA and worked as a schoolteacher for the first grade in the Dover school department for 20 years. She was a member of First Parish Church for over 73 years and a member of the Dover Women’s Club. Wilma was on the Board of Managers for the Wentworth Home for 33 years. Wilma was known as an avid golfer and five-time champion. The widow of Ernest G. Thorin who died in 1968 and John Y. Sowerby who died in 1992, survivors include a step-son, John Sowerby of Dover and a step-daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Harrington of Hampstead, MD and one niece, Linda Miller of Hendersonville, Tennessee. She was predeceased by a brother, Wade Roberts. Funeral services were held at the First Parish Church in Dover with The Reverend James Pirie officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery. The Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave, Dover made arrangements.
