Cassily Avid blueberry picker, traveler Thelma E. Cassily, 90, of 4 Autumn St., died July 15, 2001 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She was born on Cape Cod December 16, 1910, the daughter of the late George and Annie (Record) Bartlett. Thelma graduated from the Kensington schools and moved to Dover 65 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1961, Thelma worked as an assembly line worker for General Electric. She was a very avid blueberry picker and loved to travel the country visiting her children and her grandchildren. Her family members include two sons, William B. and his wife Dixie Lee Cassily of Colorado, Robert Cassily and his wife Marion of Dover; two daughters, Mariam Lastine and her husband James of Arlington, Texas, and Elizabeth Moeckel and her husband Carl of Orlando, Fla., 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband Frank Cassily who died August 6, 1983 and by a brother Cecil Bartlett. Services were July 20 at Tasker Funeral Home. Buriel is in Pine Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were with Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Avenue. William Everett Kennard Veteran, farmer, sportsman William Everett Kennard, 91 years of Stepping Stone Rd., Lee, died July 20, 2001 at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born in Nottingham, July 3, 1910 the son of William E and Abigail (Bartlett) Kennard. William grew up on Kennard Rd., which was named for his family. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Maintenance Department of Kedder Press on Broadway in Dover. He was a former member of the Major Waldron’s Sportsman’s Association in Barrington. In his free time, William enjoyed reading, farming and hunting. He was the husband of Esther G. (Knowlton) Kennard with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 19, 2001. Members of his family include his wife, Esther of Dover, a son Ronald W. Kennard of Lee, two daughters: Elaine L. Davis of Palm Bay, FL., and June C. Laudon of Buhl, MN. A brother, Raymond Kennard of Effingham, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brothers Oliver Kennard who died in 1986, and Benjamin Kennard who died in 1992, and a sister: Mae Bowen who died in 1981. There were no public services. Private burial is in South Pine St. Cemetery, Dover. For those who may desire, contributions in William’s memory may be made to your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Lucille Noel Loving mother Lucille Noel, 80, of 240 Rte 16B, Somersworth, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at her residence. She was born in Dover March 9, 1921 the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Soucy) Simoneau. Lucille was employed as store manager for Winebaum News Shop. She was the widow of Edgar M. Noel who was the owner of Eddie’s Diner and who died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Amazeen of Somersworth and a grandson, Todd Amazeen. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Charles Church, with The Reverend Paul Gregoire, Pastor celebrating. Interment is in St. Charles Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish may make donations in her memory to the charity of their choice. Arrangements were with Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue, Dover. Gertrude G. Mailhoit CNA, St. Charles communicant Gertrude G. Mailhoit, 79, a resident of Riverside Rest Home and former resident of Central Towers, died Thursday July 19, 2001 at Riverside Rest Home. She was born in Vinny Ridge, P.Q, Canada the daughter of Donat and Noellia (Tureotte) Barabe. At a young age, Gertrude moved to Salmon Falls where she attended the local schools. Gertrude had lived in Plainville, CT and Biddeford, ME prior to settling in Dover. She was the widow of Arthur Mailhoit who died in 1972. A Certified Nurses Aide, Gertrude had worked at Riverside Rest Home, the former Webber Hospital in Biddeford, ME and other local nursing homes, as well as providing private duty nursing care. She was a member of St. Charles Church, Dover and had attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Rochester. Prior to living at Riverside, Gertrude enjoyed the “Day Out” Program for seniors run by Strafford Guidance. Members of the family include a daughter Gloria Hayes and her husband Edward of Strafford, a son Ronald Mailhoit and his wife Sylvia of Bow. Also, a brother Norbert Basrabe of Biddeford, ME; three sisters Mary Dichard of Kennebunk, ME, Aunette Turcotte of Biddeford, ME and Alice Lageux of Saco, ME.; five grandchildren Todd Mailhoit, Michelle Wilson, Angela Locke and Amy Mailhoit and three great-grandchildren Devon Locke, Brittany Locke and Faith Wilson. Gertrude is also survived by many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, North Main St., Rochester. Burial is in St. Charles Cemetery, Dover. Tanya Lee Hussey 21 wonderful years Tanya Lee Hussey, 21, of Hooper Sands Road, South Berwick, Maine, died suddenly July 20, 2001 at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Tanya had a heart transplant four years ago and those four years have been good years for her and her family. Born in Dover on October 3, 1979, she was the daughter of Peter C. and Linda (Monroe) Hussey. She has lived here all her life and was a graduate of Marshwood High School. Tanya worked with her sister at Berwick Early Learning Day Care Center. Her parents Linda and Peter Hussey, her sister Melissa Hussey, her paternal grandparents Elsie and Paul Hussey, Sr., survive her, all of South Berwick; her boyfriend Brian A. Ferland of Rochester and aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were July 24 at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home with The Reverend Carolyn U. Lambert, minister of the First Parish Federated Church officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Austin, 78 of Constitution Way died Friday July 13, 2001 at her home following a period of failing health. June was born in Rochester, December 27, 1922 the daughter of Edward and Gladys (Bennett) Caron. A very caring person, June was a Certified Nurses Aide in Florida for many years. Members of her family include her son Theodore “Ted” Mantos, Jr. and his wife Diane of Milton, a sister Edna of Scottsdale, AZ, and grandchildren Jennifer Mantos and Ted Mantos, III. Adalard Renaud Jr. Veteran, POW Adalard Renaud, Jr., 81, of 60 Middle Road, died July 21, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua. Born in South Berwick, Maine on January 31, 1920, he was the son of Adalard and Ida (Boston) Renaud and formerly lived on Webster Street in South Berwick for 55 years. He moved to Rte. 125 in Barrington where he lived for some 20 years before moving to Langdon Place in Dover. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war for nearly four years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He owned and operated the former Tydol Station in South Berwick for many years and then worked as a messenger at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 12 years until he retired. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in South Berwick. The widower of Rita (Rousseau) Renaud, he is survived by a daughter, Daralyn Stewart of Dover, a son Dale Renaud of Barrington, four grandsons – Benjamin and Stewart Renaud and Joseph and Brian Stewart; two granddaughters – Kelly Renaud and Samantha Stewart Ouellette; a great-granddaughter, Michele Ouellette and a brother, Arthur Renaud of South Berwick. He also leaves nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Church in South Berwick with The Reverend H.J. Cameron, pastor, celebrating. Burial is in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Rollinsford. Memorials may be made in his name to the World War II Memorial, P.O.Box 96766, Washington, D.C. 20090-6766. Eric John Scharf LL director, Rotarian Eric John Scharf, 34, of 10 Parent St., South Berwick, died Tuesday July 17, 2001 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Salem, MA on September 18, 1966 the son of John H. and Rosalie (Goodwin) Scharf. He has lived in South Berwick for most of his lifetime where he was a graduate of Berwick Academy, class of 1984 and also attended college in Oklahoma. In his youth he was active in Motor Cross Racing. He loved NASCAR Racing, sailing and music. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the South Berwick/Rollinsford Little League and also had been a coach. Eric was a member of the South Berwick Rotary Club and served on the Planning Board for the town of South Berwick. He was the General Manager for Spring Hill Recreation Area, a family business he grew up in and has worked with all of his life, and was in the process of rebuilding the lodge at Spring Hill. He was also a builder working with Signature Builders of Dover. He is survived by his wife Dulcy Tufts, a son Dawson Eric Scharf all of South Berwick, ME. He also leaves several aunts and uncles he was very close to and nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were at the First Parish Federated Church, corner of Main and Academy St., So. Berwick with The Reverend Donna Lee Muise and The Reverend Carolyn Lambert, ministers of the church officiating. Burial is in the family cemetery at the convenience of the family. William Lester Robertshaw Vietnam Vet, shipyard worker William Lester Robertshaw, 62, of 30 Old Route #4, Berwick, Maine, died Wednesday July 18, 2001 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on February 6, 1939, he was the son of E. Thomas and Edith M. (Brown) Robertshaw. He has lived in this area for most of his life and was a graduate of Berwick Academy, class of ’57. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served with the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Rollinsford Post #47 American Legion. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard until his retirement in 1994 and more recently has worked part-time for the town of South Berwick. He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years Judith (Walsh) Robertshaw, four children Heidi Robertshaw of Portland, ME, Lori Poulin and Erin Robertshaw both of Berwick, Donna Gorman of Tewksbury, MA, three grandchildren, two brothers E. Thomas Robertshaw, Jr., and his wife Grace, Alan B. Robertshaw and his wife Lois, two sisters Mrs. Robert (Meridith) Prewitt and Mrs. Paul (Janet) Lagaide all of South Berwick and several nieces and nephews. Services were July 21 at The First Parish Federated Church with The Reverend Carolyn Lambert officiating. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery.
