Lawson Quint Honored GE retiree, crafter Bertha H. Lawson Quint entered the presence of God from her home in South Berwick, Maine on October 6, 2001 after a courageous battle with renal disease. Born in Kittery, ME and raised in Eliot, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Kelly) Lawson. She was the wife of the late Harland James Quint who died in 1977. Bertha was a graduate of Eliot High School. During World War II she worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Mrs. Quint had been employed at the General Electric plant in Somersworth and was one of the very first employees to be hired there. At her retirement in 1983 she was the longest serving employee of the plant and received many honors. After her retirement she had attended nearly all of the retiree reunions. Bertha enjoyed summering at the camp she and her husband “Unc” owned, which was named “Glad-2-c-u” and was located on Mousam Lake. She was an avid crafter and shopper and was very devoted to her family. She was known for never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, school graduation or family party. She is survived by her sister, Irva Hinds of Eliot and by a very large and loving family of her stepdaughter and also nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Bertha (Kelly) Lawson and by a brother Charles Lawson. Funeral services were at the Eliot United Methodist Church with The Reverend Ron Messer and Father John Clifton officiating. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. Wilbert Hanson Veteran Wilbert Longfellow Hansen, 78, formerly of 9E River Street, Newmarket, died October 10 at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health. Born October 12, 1923 in Smithfield, RI he was the son of Nils A. and Elizabeth Winsor (Longfellow) Hansen. A veteran, he served as Chief in the US Navy during World War II. He was maintenance supervisor for the Massachusetts Port Authority at Logan Airport, retiring in 1990. He had worked with Shaw’s of Stratham for the last 10 years. Bert was a Newmarket resident for 10 years. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Eugenie “Jen” (Coulombe) of Newmarket; three sons, David Hansen of Maine; Brian Hansen of Ipswich, MA and Dana Hansen of Peabody, MA; two stepsons, Charles Spinale and his wife Vicki of Byfield, MA; one daughter Ms. Paula Hansen of Georgetown, MA; two stepdaughters Janet Spinale of Canton, MA and Joyce Snow of Exeter; two brothers, August Nils Hansen of Smithfield, RI and Alfred Hansen of Coventry, RI; two sisters, Betty Berhoe of Johnstown, RI and Barbara Hiatt of No. Providence, RI; twelve grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wayne and Glen. Services were at the Purdy Chapel in Lee with The Reverend James Pirie of First Parish Church of Dover officiating. Arrangements were with Purdy Memorial Chapel and Oyster River Crematory. Robert Lariviere Veteran, Moose Robert Lariviere, 70, of North Halifax Ave., Daytona Beach, Florida, formerly of Dover, died October 8, 2001 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA following a period of failing health. He was born in Dover, the son of Marie Louise (Desjardins) Lariviere and the late Ludger Lariviere. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy. He retired from Davidson Rubber where he had been employed as a production engineer. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. His wife, Mary Elizabeth (Berry) Lariviere died in 1975. Members of the family include his mother Marie-Louise Lariviere of Dover; his son Robert J. Lariviere of Shrewsbury, MA; and his sisters Sr. Marie Louise Lariviere, PMA, of Hudson, and Irene Gagnon of Dover. His grandson Spencer Robert Lariviere of Shrewsbury, MA; an aunt Rachel Girard of Dover; and several cousins also survive Robert. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Charles Church in Dover, with The Reverend Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery, where Father Paul offered committal prayers. Arrangements were with Tasker Funeral Home. Julia Day Wife and mother Julia Lillian Day, 92, formerly of 3D Hall Street died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health. Born January 10, 1909 in Gloucester, MA she was the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude (Pinkham) Gilson. She moved to Dover in 1992. A housewife and mother, she was an active member of the West Gloucester Congregational Church. The widow of Ralph Day who died in 1982 after 49 years of marriage, Julie is survived by a daughter, Joyce April of Dover; one sister, Gertrude Gilson of Gloucester; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert and Samuel “Friend” Gilson.
