Born in February of 1929 in Waterville, Maine, she was the daughter of Alonzo and Alice Mae (Horton) Porter. She was employed as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. Survivors include two sons, David Roland Dears of Somerville, MA and Raymond Dears of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Ruth Andrea Dears of East Lebanon, Maine; one brother, Alonzo Porter of Glendale, AZ and three grandchildren. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggen-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue and Oyster River Crematory, Barrington. Martha J. Irons Active Navy wife, career woman Martha Jane irons, 54, of 118 Fairfield Drive, Dillsburg, PA, died October 27, 2001. Born is Damariscotta, Maine September 1, 1947, she was the daughter of Karen Gamage Rowe and Raymond Crocker and graduated from high school in South Berwick, Maine, Class of 1966. She was the loving wife of Joseph A. Irons, Jr., for 32 years. She enjoyed traveling around the world as a Navy wife, serving as president of the Navy Wives Club, Ombudsman and fulfilled more than 30 years in a Civil Service career concluding as Household Division Director at Naval Supply Systems Command in Mechanicsburg, PA. Martha will be sadly missed by all including her husband Joseph of Dillsburg, PA, sister Grace and her husband Curly Randall of Middleton, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, cousins and Godchildren, all of Maine, New Hampshire, Missouri and Virginia as well as her many friends around the world. Services were November 1 from the Tasker Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Spearing officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association of charity of one’s choice.
