Boyle Bernard J. “Brian” Boyle, 62, of 34 Union St., South Berwick, ME died Thursday, November 29, 2001 at his home of cancer. Brian was born August 29, 1939 in Dover. He was the son of the late Bernard “Barney” J. Sr. and Catherine (McArdle) Boyle. He was raised in Dover and was a 1957 graduate of Dover High School. He served in the US Navy as a boiler tender. He also served in the US Navy reserves for 28 years, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer BTC. He was employed for 20 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a heating plant operator. Recently he worked as a security guard, a salesman selling Cutco cutlery, a private investigator, and was a substitute teacher in many high schools and junior high schools. He last worked at the University of New Hampshire in the heating plant. Brian had an appreciation and deep respect for history and education and in 1991 he embarked on a new career in teaching. He enrolled at age 54 at Notre Dame College in Manchester, worked very hard and graduated in 1995 with a bachelor of arts degree and a teaching certificate. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in South Berwick. ME. He was proud of his military service, enjoyed nature and animals, and the “oldies” and was a world-class rock-and-roll dancer. His hobbies included photography and his antique truck and T-bird. He was a member of the Olde Tyme Cruisin’ Auto Club. Brian was a man who always saw the good side of life and never spoke ill of anyone. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, his ever-ready smile, and telling a joke or two whenever the opportunity arose. Most of all he loved his family and friends. All eight grandchildren always know the answer to Bubba’s question, “Hey, guess what…?” He is survived by his loving wife Joyce (Littlefield) Boyle of South Berwick, ME; two sons, Brian Boyle of Berwick, ME and Christopher Boyle of Somersworth; two daughters, Kerie Crichton and her husband Tim of Berwick, ME and Michelle Boyle of Somersworth; two stepchildren, Shane May and his wife Kim of Milton and Sharla Roy and her husband Jeff of Torrington, CT; a sister Agnes Knowles and her husband Ron of Algonac, MI; three brothers, Terry Boyle and his wife Joanne, and Charlie Boyle of Dover, and Patrick and his wife Teresa of Rochester. He was the grandfather to eight children, Brian, Jordyn and Erica Crichton, Chelsea Boyle, Zachary and Damian May, Olivia and Brenden Roy. He has many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael and his sister, Margaret Boyle Terninko. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated December 3, at St. Joseph Church, 150 Central Ave. Interment will be at a later date in St. Mary New Cemetery.
