Cassell DHS grad, Sorace Pit Crew Linda M. Cassell, 47, of 19 Pleasant View Circle, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at the Rochester Manor after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 21, 1954, in Dover, the daughter of LeRoy and Noreen (Gillis) Giles. She attended Dover schools and was a graduate of Dover High School. She was employed in the finishing department at Fiberdyne Manufacturing. She was a member of the pit crew at the Lee Raceway with Jim Sorace Racing Team. Linda is survived by her parents of Dover; two sons, James and Joseph Cassell of Dover; two daughters, Linda Cassell and Debra Laney, both of Rochester; three brothers, Wayne Giles of New Durham, Leroy Giles of Dover and Ronald Giles of Rochester; two sisters, Debra Giles of Dover and Donna Smith of Barrington, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services were Tuesday from the Wiggen-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home with The Reverend Deacon Ginny Slawnwhite, chaplain of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the funeral home and Oyster River Crematory. Mary Elizabeth Callahan Mother of Dover man Mary Elizabeth Callahan, 67, of 295 Dover Point Road, died Tuesday, November 20, 200 at the Riverside Rest Home. She was born March 29, 1934 in Central Falls, RI the daughter of Thomas and Frances (Mullarky) Quinlan and had lived in Connecticut and Rhode Island prior to moving to Dover three years ago. Members of her family include her husband of 46 years, Leo F. Callahan of Dover; her daughter, Kelli Clark of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ; her son Michael Callahan of Dover; four grandchildren, Daniel Callahan, Jesse Clark, Brittany Clark, and Nicholas Clark; two sisters, Catherine Jacobs of Attleboro, MA and Ann Brown of Cumberland, RI; one brother, Robert Quinlan of Cape Cod, MA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Church with The Reverend Robert Cole, pastor as celebrant. Burial followed in New St. Mary Cemetery. Maurice Landers Veteran, machinest Maurice William Landers, 74, of 253 Route 125 in Barrington, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health. Born January 28, 1927 in Bristol, CT, he was the son of Maurice and Ruth (Chapman) Landers. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a machine operator with Simplex Wire and Cable from 1954, retiring in the 1980s. He was also owner and operator of a machine shop at his Barrington residence. Survivors include his mother of Berlin; his wife of 47 years, Theresa (Bourbeau) Lander of Barrington; three sons, Steven W. Landers and his wife Amy of Lebanon, ME, David J. Landers of Rochester and Thomas M. Landers and his wife Sue of New Durham; six sisters, Mary Carr of Mesa, AZ, Doris Deveau of East Millinocket, ME, Bette Chevarie of Berlin, Joan Wilson of Iliopolis, IL, Sally Therriaut and Sheila Bilodeau of Berlin; eight grandchildren; one great grand-daughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Clifford Landers. Services were Tuesday from the Purdy Memorial Chapel in Lee. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in Barrington. Jacob Ira Knight Cook, cyclist Jacob Ira Knight, 24, of 224 Main St., South Berwick, ME, died Sunday November 8, 2001 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Born in Bellows Falls, VT, on June 18, 1977 the son of Rick and Jennifer Lynne (Colby) Knight he attended schools in Rumford, Me, and enjoyed football and bicycling. He had been employed as a cook for various hotel restaurants in the Portland area. He is survived by his parents, Pastor Rick and Jennifer Lynn Knight, and two sisters Amanda Lynne and Meagan Leigh Knight of South Berwick; his paternal grandfather Lawrence Knight of Bellows Falls, VT; his maternal grandparents Pastor Robert and Dorothy Colby of Rockland, ME and aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held Friday, November 23 at the Bible Speaks Church in South Berwick, ME. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Peter Ordway Teacher, conservationist Peter Ordway, 69, of Rollinsford, died November 23 in the company of his family. He was born November 15, 1932 in Fort Meyers, FL the son of Donald and Molly (Hamill) Ordway. Peter was educated at Christ School in Arden, NC, the University of California at Berkeley and the University of New Hampshire. He taught for many years at Friends Academy in South Dartmouth, MA, the Derryfield School in Bedford, the Somersworth schools and Berwick Academy. Peter was active in many conservation causes, especially the Calusa Land Trust of Pine Island, FL. He loved hiking, sailing, music and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Pat (Adams) Ordway; two daughters, Brigit and her partner Sue, and Kate and her husband Richard; one son, Jonathan and his wife Ling; and five grandchildren, Noelle, Sam, Cora, James and Isabelle, all of Rollinsford.
