Assad, 73, of 777 Lafayette Road, formerly of Kensington, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at the Partridge House. She was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late George and Nancy (Augustine) Tebbetts. She resided Seabrook and in Kensington for 26 years, moving to the Partridge House last February. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School. Mrs. Assad worked for CBS Hytron Co. in Newburyport, Mass., and the Bailey Corporation in Seabrook. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James P. Assad; three sons, Peter J. Assad of Ft. Myers, Fla., David A. Assad of Salisbury, Mass., and Gary M. Assad of Raymond; two daughters, Karen E. Coles of Olympia, Wash., and Nancy D. Rossborough of Cornish Flat; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one sister, Margaret Tebbetts of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101. Joseph J. Connors EPPING -- Joseph J. Connors, 61, of St. Laurent Street, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Bethel, Maine, after a sudden illness. He was born July 3, 1939, in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., the son of the late William and Katherine (DeGroff) Connors, moving to Epping in 1961. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1958 until 1961. Mr. Connors worked in the shipping and receiving department at United Machine & Tool Design Co. in Fremont for many years. He coached little league baseball in Epping for many years and was instrumental in the construction of the original high school baseball field and the field at Mary Folsom Blair Park in Epping. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anne (Janelle) Connors of Epping; two sons, Michael Connors of Fremont and Daniel Connors of Hampton; one daughter, Julie Callahan of Plainville, Conn.; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping, with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating. Holmes, 83, of Main Street, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Raymond W. and Amy (Wells) Andrews, and had resided in Sandown since 1940. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and a 1938 graduate of Keene State College. Mrs. Holmes taught school in Sandown for several years. She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Sandown, and a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. She was a library trustee for 20 years; school district clerk for 11 years; and deputy town treasurer for nine years. She was active with the Boy Scouts; the Parent-Teacher Association; and the Women's Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church Auxiliary Group and was a 50 year member of the Sandown Grange, holding offices in all of these groups for many years. Mrs. Holmes was honored as Sandown's Citizen of the Year in 1995. The widow of John B. Holmes Jr., who died in 1999, she is survived by two sons, Richard D. Holmes of Derry and Robert W. Holmes of Crownsville, Md.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, R. Philice Burt of Eliot, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Peabody Funeral Home, 460 Main St., Sandown. Spring burial will be in Center Cemetery, Sandown. Metevier FREMONT -- Beatrice Louise Metevier, 81, of Chester Road, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a period of failing health. She was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Danville, the daughter of the late Marcus and Grace (Dimond) Anderson and was a longtime resident of Fremont. Mrs. Metevier was a stitcher in many local shoe factories. She was a former member of Raymond Methodist Church. The widow of Urban Metevier, who died in 1987, she is survived by one son, Ronald Metevier of Raymond; two daughters, Lorraine Downing of Fremont and Jean Wylie of Leominster, Mass.; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Hollis Anderson; and one sister, Pearl Beaulieu. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. Chan Newton officiating. Spring burial will be in Village Cemetery, Fremont. Mary Rose Souther SEABROOK -- Mary Rose Souther, 73, of 41 Walton Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Louis and Mabel (Cole) Violette. She was a 1946 graduate of Newburyport High School and was a member of its alumni association. Mrs. Souther was employed at the former Barr & Bloomfield Shoe Co. She had also worked for her father and Hollis Brown at Brown's Lobster Pound during the 1950s and as a cook at the Greenleaf House Nursing Home, Salisbury, Mass., during the 1960s. After her retirement, she worked part time at Ames Department Store, Seabrook. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping and family picnics. The widow of Norman Souther, who died in 1992, she is survived by five sons, Norman Souther Jr., Robert Souther and Dwight Souther, all of Seabrook, Frank Souther of Salisbury, and Paul Souther of Fremont; three daughters, Kathy Souther, Valerie Eaton and Rosemary Fowler, all of Seabrook; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Violette of Londonderry; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Kristopher and Keith Souther and Stanley Fowler. Funeral services were held Monday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
