Permission received to include in the USGenWeb Archives. Russell S. Cushing NEWTON -- Russell S. Cushing, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare, Amesbury, Mass. He was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Plaistow, the son of the late Harric R. and Harriet (Smith) Cushing. He had resided in Haverhill, Mass., before coming to Newton. Mr. Cushing was an engineering assistant at the former Western Electric Co., retiring in 1979 after 22 years of service. During World War II he worked for Lincoln Labs at MIT where he assisted in the development of the proximity fuse that proved vital during aerial bombing. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Merrimack Valley Chapter 78. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn M. (Gilmore) Cushing; two sons, Richard D. Cushing and Stephen M. Cushing and his wife, Donna, all of Newton; one daughter, Lt. Col. Barbara Cushing, (USAF Ret.) and her husband Marvin of Titusville, Fla.; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; one niece and several nephews. Mahon, 78, of 164 Route 125, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born in Brookline, Mass., and had resided in Kingston for 44 years. Mr. Mahon was a driller and blaster for the Hemphill Drilling and Blasting Co., and was later employed in the maintenance department of Frasier Pontiac, Amesbury, Mass. He was a communicant of St. Frederick Church, Kingston, and was active on the Parish Council and the Building and Finance Committees. He was a member of the Organic Farmers of America and operated Side Hill Farm and Vegetable Stand on Route 125 in Kingston. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annette (Arbic) Mahon; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward P. and Christine Mahon of Port Charlotte, Richard A. Mahon of Kingston, Thomas Mahon of Fremont and Andrew Mahon of Northwood; three daughters and one son-in-law, Elaine M. and Louis Bouchard of Kingston, Noela A. Kelly of Plaistow and Roseanne Searles of Haverhill, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Mahon of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. Calling will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Mother of the Church, Newton. Emily Ann Smith SANDOWN -- Emily Ann Smith, infant daughter of Joseph and Hope (Piper) Smith of 2 Powder House Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, shortly after birth at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston. In addition to her parents she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth A. Piper of Rochester, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Wicker CHESTER, Va. -- Lillian G. Wicker, 80, of Rivers Bend Circle, formerly of Exeter Mill Apartments, Exeter, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in John Randolph Hospital, Hopewell, Va. She was born July 17, 1920, in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of the late Sidney and Ola (Geilear) Cowell and was a longtime resident of the Plaistow-Kingston area. Mrs. Wicker owned and operated the Lilac & Lace Gift Shop in Exeter for several years. She was also the head bookkeeper at Western Electric in Andover, Mass. She was a communicant of Holy Angel Church, Plaistow. The widow of George W. Wicker, she is survived by one brother, James P. Cowell of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angel Church, Plaistow. Spring burial will be in Holy Angel Cemetery, Plaistow. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. David F. Wood HAMPTON -- David F. Wood, 53, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Beverly Hospital, Beverly, Mass., after being stricken ill at his garage in Topsfield, Mass. He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late George A. and Marjorie (Johnson) Wood and had resided in Kingston before moving to Hampton. He was a graduate of Salem (Mass.) Vocational Technical High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a specialist 5th grade. Mr. Wood co-owned and operated Star Service in Topsfield where he was an auto mechanic for the past five years and had previously owned and operated D&E Forklift Co. in Lawrence, Mass., for 20 years. He was a member of the Kingston Veteran's Club. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ellen (Harper) Wood; one son, David G. Wood of No. Chelmsford, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Paula and Warren Bain of Epping; one granddaughter; two brothers, Robert G. Wood of Cambridge, Vt., and Gerald A. Wood of Kingston; one sister, Sandra Getchell of Danvers, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston. (Grigaluna) Peloquin, 81, of 792 Washington St., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Penacook Place. She was born June 1, 1919, in Westfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Anna (Jegelewiez) Grigaluna. She had resided in Groton, Conn., for 15 years, moving to Haverhill in 1987. She was a 1936 graduate of Westfield High School. Mrs. Peloquin was a clerk at the A&P, Sears, Roebuck and Co., and W.T. Grant stores. The widow of George Peloquin who died in 1993, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Marianne and Raymond Blackstone of San Antonio, Tex.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Sophie Kucharski, Helen O'Neil and Frances Curran, all of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon in Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Quantico, Va.
