Permission received to include in the USGenWeb Archives. Carroll B. Bishop EPPING -- Carroll Burton Bishop, 85, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton. He was born April 11, 1915, in Fremont, the son of the late Alonzo and Lillian (Fuller) Bishop. He was raised in Fremont and was a longtime resident of Epping. Mr. Bishop served with the Conservation Civilian Corps camps as the first cook in 1933 and 1934. After returning home he spent his earlier years as a foreman with Sorabella's Box Co. in Raymond. He owned a drywall business for several years and later served as chief of police in Epping. Nearing the age of retirement, he worked as a custodian at Epping Elementary School. He enjoyed boxing and wrestling and was well known in Amesbury, Mass., in 1934-35 when he held the wrestling title there and remained undefeated through 1935. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ella (Porter) Bishop of Epping; two daughters, Grace Tucker and her husband Robert of Exeter and Julie Bishop of Epping; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Perreault of Seabrook; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Nancy Carol Sargent; two sisters, Etta Bishop and Evelyn Fortier; and four brothers, Chester, Herbert, Andrew and Sidney Bishop. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping. Pearl M. Davies FREMONT -- Pearl M. Davies, 97, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood. She was born April 4, 1903, the daughter of the late Jesse and May (Flanders) Smith and lived all of her adult life in Fremont. She attended Raymond High School. Mrs. Davies was formerly a cook at the Ellis School in Fremont. After her husband's death, she completed his term as a Fremont selectman. She was a member of People's United Methodist Church, Fremont. The widow of Arthur Davies, who died in 1968, she is survived by one son, Harold Davies of Fremont; one daughter, Virginia Standish of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Norman Davies, Robert Davies and Richard Davies; one daughter, Marjorie Perkins; and two brothers, Ray Smith and Edgar Smith. Funeral services were held Monday in People's United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Barner officiating. Spring burial will be in Village Cemetery, Fremont. Fegan, 52, of New Road, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at his home after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born Sept. 11, 1948, in Exeter, the son of Clayton and Almeda (Chase) Fegan. He had resided in Hampton and Eliot, Maine, before moving to Newmarket. He was a 1968 graduate of Exeter High School. He served with the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Overseas Service Bar, Vietnam Service Ribbon with device and Expert Badge with bar (M-16). Mr. Fegan was a member of the Church of Christ, Kittery, Maine. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at Phillips Lake in Lucerne, Maine, with his family. He was a Little League and soccer coach in Eliot. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jill (Monaghan) Fegan of Newmarket; two sons, Denis Fegan of Brentwood and Jamie Fegan and his wife Cherise of Fremont; two grandchildren; one sister, Linda French; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, C. Wayne Fegan, who died in 1993. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ, 48 Love Lane, Kittery, Maine. Family flowers only. She was born March 25, 1904, in Athol, Mass., the daughter of the late Adelbert and Flora (Adams) Fletcher. She had resided in Kingston for 43 years before moving to Exeter in 1991 and had previously lived in Dartmouth, Mass. She was a 1926 graduate of Children's Hospital School of Nursing, Boston. Mrs. Gifford was a registered nurse. She was an avid button collector and a member of Kingston Congregational Church and Ladies Circle; the Kingston Garden Club; the Kingston Grange; the Brentwood Home Demonstration Group; the New Hampshire and Massachusetts Button Societies; a Rockingham County 4-H leader; and a 50-year member of the Corinthians Queen Esther Chapter No. 26 Order of Eastern Star. The widow of Clarence H. Gifford, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and John Wall of Newbury, Mass., and Lois and Norman Sanborn of Stratham; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Allen's Neck Friends' Church, Dartmouth, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Nellie S. Scholes FREMONT -- Nellie S. Scholes, 94, died Mach 18, 2001, at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a lengthy illness. She was born May 5, 1906, in Accrington, England, the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice Jane (Rhodes) South. She came to the United Sates in 1930 and settled in Pawtucket, R.I. She moved to Raymond in 1973 moving to Fremont in 1988. Mrs. Scholes was a weaver in Pawtucket mills retiring in 1973. She was a member of Raymond Baptist Church. The widow of Jack Scholes, who died in 1983, she is survived by one son and his wife, William and Katie Scholes of Fremont; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.
