Bernier, 91, of Railroad Avenue, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 22, 1910, in Brentwood, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Roseanna (Jolicoeur) Talbot. She was raised in Brentwood and had resided in Epping for 72 years. Mrs. Bernier was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping, and was very active with the landscaping at the church and at her home. The widow of Ernest A. Bernier, who died in 1984, she is survived by one son and his wife, Ernest A. Jr. and Karen Bernier of Dover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Victorine and Robert KillKelley of Merrimack, Norita Bernier of Raymond and Lynnanne and Arthur Byron of Rangeley, Maine; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Talbot and Raymond Talbot, both of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Ronald Corriveau as the celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping. Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping. Robert W. Costello Jr. HAVERHILL, Mass. -- Robert W. Costello Jr., 49, of 214 Lawrence St., died Monday, April 30, 2001, in Hale Hospital. He was born June 1, 1951, in Haverhill, the son of Joan (Sullivan) Costello of Bradford, Mass., and the late Robert W. Costello Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of Haverhill High School and a 1973 graduate of St. Anselm College, Manchester, with a bachelor's degree in business. He served as captain of the basketball team at both schools. Mr. Costello joined his late father and brother William in the family insurance business, Costello Insurance Agency, Inc. of Bradford, where he was serving as treasurer. He was president of Hoyt-Costello Insurance Agency in Exeter and Raymond, which he established in 1983. He was a certified insurance counselor; a member of the Professional Independent Agents of America; the Greater Haverhill Insurance Agents; the Jackson Club of Haverhill; and a stockholder of Haverhill Investment Team. He enjoyed handicapping horses. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion, Ann Marie Gillis of Haverhill; his children and their mother, Robert W. Costello III of Bradford, Sara L. Costello of Andover, Mass., Erin F. Costello of Bradford, and Rosemary (Flaherty) Costello of Andover; two sisters, Lynn Garner of Haverhill and Maura A. Demers of Andover; two brothers, William Costello and Michael Costello, both of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Hearts Church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill. Kanaly, 94, of Cottage Street, died Dec. 18, 2000, in Brentwood after a lingering illness. He was born Feb. 7, 1906, in Somerville, Mass., the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Paterson) Kanaly. He was raised in Belmont, Mass., and had resided in Kingston for 27 years. He was educated in Belmont schools and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific and stationed in Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. In his youth he was an avid runner and won championships in indoor and outdoor races. He competed and won races at Boston Garden and Madison Square Garden and was a member of the Boston Running Club. He was a well known ballroom dancer and was a contra dance instructor in the south shore of Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire until the age of 90. He enjoyed attending sporting events at Sanborn High School. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Breen) Kanaly of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in December in The Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston. Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Kingston Congregational Church with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Eulogies will be presented by Alan Magnuson and Glen Coppleman. A reception will follow in the Rent Room of Kingston Congregational Church. Lamontagne LAWRENCE, Mass. -- Joseph F. "Frank" Lamontagne, 74, of Amherst Street, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at his daughter's home in Epping, after a period of failing health. He was born May 6, 1926, in Andover, Mass., the son of the late Treffle and Matilda (Grenier) Lamontagne and was a long time resident of Lawrence. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre in Germany and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Lamontagne was a drug and alcohol counselor at Lawrence General Hospital Detoxification Center, the Baldpate Hospital, Georgetown, Mass., Hampstead Hospital, Hampstead and Seaborne Hospital, Dover. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Milton and was an avid gardener. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Bilodeau) Lamontagne of No. Andover, Mass.; two sons, Keith Lamontagne of Atkinson and Kevin Lamontagne of Lawrence; one daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Robert Lewis of Epping; five grandchildren; two brothers, Wilfred Lamontagne of Lawrence and Wilbur Lamontagne of Andover; three sisters, Jeanette Quintal of Lawrence, Simone Kijanka of Haverhill, Mass., and Rita Pare of Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lawrence, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Eugene J. Ouellet AMESBURY, Mass. -- Eugene J. "Gene" Ouellet, 81, of Stover Court, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Amesbury, the son of the late Ovide and Albina (Belanger) Ouellet and was a lifelong resident of Amesbury. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II participating in the invasion of Normandy. Mr. Ouellet was employed at the former Craig Systems of Amesbury for more than 30 years. He was a former member of the Amesbury Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Julia (Raymond) Ouellet; two daughters and their husbands, Carol A. and Kenneth Maynard of Epping and Jean M. and David Cross of Fremont; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Shattler of Amesbury. Calling hours will be held Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish Sacred Heart Church, Amesbury. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.
