Miriam Wentworth Dodge, RN BRENTWOOD -- Miriam Wentworth Dodge, 95, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood. She was born March 24, 1906, in Farmington, the daughter of the late Samuel and Georgia (Proctor) Wentworth. Mrs. Dodge grew up in Plaistow and graduated from Haverhill (Mass.) High School. She received her RN degree from the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in Boston. She moved to Brentwood in 1939, after residing in Paxton, Mass. She and her husband lived at his ancestral homestead on Middle Road. Her nursing career included several years as a "special" nurse, some time as assistant director of nursing at Exeter Hospital, and she was director of nursing at the Rockingham County Home in Brentwood for more than 15 years. Mrs. Dodge was a member and chairman of the Brentwood School Board, a member of the original Swazey School Building Committee, the founder and first president of the Brentwood PTA, a member of the Brentwood Historical Society, a member of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Heart Association and a board member of Exeter Eventide Home. She was a member of the Exeter Congregational Church and was a president of the Thursday Circle and a member of the choir. She was an active gardener and an avid reader of mystery novels. Mrs. Dodge was predeceased by her husband, John S. Dodge, who died in 1952. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Deborah Heine of Stratham, Martha Clark of Brentwood, John W. and David S. Dodge, both of Exeter; one sister, Natalie Morse of Wrentham, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. There will be no calling hours and a private burial will be handled by the family. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Exeter Congregational Church. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
