Permission received to include in the USGenWeb Archives. John Halchak STONEHAM, Mass. -- John Halchak, 78, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born and raised in Philadelphia the son of the late Roman and Eva (Fedoriga) Halczak. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the USS Quincy and the USS Hancock. He earned the rank of radioman first class and served in the European-African-Middle Eastern and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns. He was the recipient of six bronze stars. He attended Temple University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a graduate of Northeastern University. Mr. Halchak was a retired professional electronics engineer. He was a ham radio operator and with his late wife, enjoyed dancing with the Baldwin Apple Squaredancers. He was an active parent with the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts organizations. Following his retirement he spent much of his time renovating the family farmhouse in Hill and enjoyed spending time with his family. The husband of the late Beatrice M. (MacDonald) Halchak, he is survived by two sons, Dale B. Halchak of Winchester, Mass., and John R. Halchak Jr. of Atkinson; one daughter, Helen C. Goodreau of Lafayette, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Anne Braumbert of Baltimore. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church, 457 Main St., Stoneham. Private burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Cheryl Lee Jordan KINGSTON -- Cheryl Lee Jordan, 52, of New Boston Road, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Exeter, the daughter of Shirley (Waitt) Arnold of Kingston and the late George E. Arnold Jr., and was a lifelong resident of Kingston. She was a 1968 graduate of Exeter High School and received an associate degree in office management from Northern Essex Community College. Mrs. Jordan was employed by Lucent Technology for 14 years. She was a longtime member of First Congregational Church of Kingston where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, crafts and animals. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Jordan of Kingston; one daughter and her husband, Cyndy and James Evans of Kingston; two grandchildren; one sister, Laurie Greene of Kingston; one brother, George Arnold III of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday in First Congregational Church, Kingston. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston. Shinberg DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Dr. John D. Shinberg, 97, formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Israel and Goldie (Listernick) Shinberg. He was a graduate of Tufts University and Middlesex College of Medicine. He served with the medical corps for four years during World War II spending 22 months overseas. He was discharged in 1945 as a captain. Dr. Shinberg was a family physician/general practitioner in Haverhill for more than 40 years, delivering more than 750 babies spanning two generations. He was a school physician, director of the health department's venereal disease department for more than 30 years and an associate medical examiner nearly 20 years. He was a part-time physician at Western Electric for nine years. Upon his retirement he was given an appreciation plaque and a gold stethoscope. Dr. Shinberg was on the staff at Hale Hospital, Haverhill, and Baldpate Hospital in Georgetown, Mass. He served a term as president of the Pentucket Association of Physicians and was written up in Who's Who in the East. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the organ. He is survived by his wife, Esther (Attenberg) Shinberg; one daughter-in-law, Gail Shinberg of Monroe Township, N.J.; one son-in-law, Frederick Smith of Maplewood, N.J.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Eileen Graff, Stephen Attenberg and Karen Karlsberger; five step grandchildren; and one sister, Bette Stone of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth R. (Gould) Shinberg; one son, Ira H. Shinberg; one daughter, Sara E. Smith; three sisters, Bessie, Pearl and Ann; and three brothers, Jake, Barney and Murray. Services were held Sunday at Temple Emanu-El, Haverhill. Interment was in the Temple Emanuel of Andover Cemetery, Lawrence. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements were by the Levine Chapels, Brookline, Mass. Stanley W. Wilson BRENTWOOD -- Stanley W. Wilson, 88, of Mill Road, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home, Fremont. He was born June 15, 1913, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Albert I. and Florence (Rowell) Wilson and had been a longtime resident of Brentwood. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Wilson was a machinist at Bailey Manufacturing Co., Seabrook, retiring 22 years ago. He was the husband of the late Frances (McKenzie) Wilson. She died in 1984. He is survived by three sons, Robert Wilson of Exeter, David Wilson of Raymond and Steven Wilson of Brentwood; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Case of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Jo-An Higgins, who died in 1990; and one brother, Harold Wilson. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday in St. Joseph Church, Epping. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping. Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping.
