Huntley Smith NEWMARKET -- A. Huntley Smith, 92, of The Pines, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare, after a brief illness. He was born May 20, 1909, in Elliots Cove, Newfoundland, the son of Archibald and Rachael (Sanson) Smith. He came to the United States at a young age and lived in Lynn and Ipswich, Mass., for many years, in Dover for 18 years and in Newmarket for the past two years. He wintered in Bradenton, Fla. Mr. Smith was an engineer and worked for Shetland Manufacturing in Salem, Mass., for many years. He held patents on several products which he designed. When Smith Corona purchased Shetland, they retained him as a property management consultant. He was predeceased by Gertrude E. (Crossman) Smith, his wife of 69 years who died in 2000. He is survived by five children, Elaine G. Graves of Rochester, Helen A. MacWhinnie of Ipswich, Huntley E. Smith of Salem, Mass., Arlene A. Jewett of Raymond and Edward A. Smith of East Kingston; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two brothers, Donald Smith of Rochester, N.Y., and Otto Smith of Florida; one sister, Ethel Engheben of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Wuori officiating. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Peabody, Mass. Family flowers only. Mary Ellen Willard BRENTWOOD -- Mary Ellen (Tucker) Willard, 54, of South Road, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born May 3, 1947, in Barre, Vt., the daughter of Cecil "Pete" and Arline (Ewen) Tucker. She had resided in Germany and in Richmond, Vt. for 24 years before moving to Brentwood in 1993. She was a 1965 graduate of Spaulding High School, Barre. At the time of her death, Mrs. Willard was employed in the Kingston Selectmen's office. She had previously worked in the medical records department at Barre City Hospital and for the Chittenden East School District for many years. She was an active member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ Brentwood-Kingston, where she was a member of the choir. She was a former member of the Richmond Congregational Church. In her youth she was involved with the Girl Scouts, was a past worthy advisor of the Rainbow Girls and a former member of Ruth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Barre. She loved the ocean, crafts, music, bowling and candy making. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 34 years, Thomas Willard; two daughters, Heather Parizo and her husband, Neil of Holly Springs, N.C., and Holly Willard of Dover; two grandchildren; one brother, William Tucker of Los Banos, Calif.; one sister, Jane Tucker of Putnamville, Vt.; two sisters-in-law, Kay Roberts of Plainfield, Vt., and Marlene Willard of East Montpelier, Vt.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Memorial services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Pilgrim United Church of Christ Brentwood-Kingston, Route 111A, Brentwood, with the Rev. Kimberly S. McKerley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society's Adventure Weekend, Gail Singer Bldg., Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.
