Daly FREMONT -- William J. Daly, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 17, 1911, in Charlestown, Mass., the son of the late Robert W. and Janet Daly. He had resided in Massachusetts, Exeter, Kingston, and in Jacksonville, Fla., for two years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Daly was a civil engineer for Camp Dresser and McKee in Boston. He was a member of P.T. Boaters Association. An avid bowler, he was a member of several bowling leagues in Exeter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille (McCombe) Daly of Fremont; two daughters, Jan Polgar of Colebrook and Lyn Saunders of Jacksonville; one son, Robert W. Daly of Marston Mills, Mass.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers John Daly of Kalamazoo, Mich., and James Daly of Bath, Maine; one sister, Irene Spinney of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. Edna G. Hoitt RAYMOND -- Edna G. (Sanborn) Hoitt, 78, of 86 Batchelder Road, died of Alzheimer's disease Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton, after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Fremont, the daughter of Sylvester and Clara (Robinson) Sanborn. Mrs. Hoitt retired from Rockingham County Nursing Home in 1986. She had previously worked at Spaulding & Frost and Regis Tannery. The widow of Roy W. Hoitt, who died in 1990, she is survived by two daughters, Brenda Stanton of Raymond and Linda Page of Greenland; four grandchildren; one sister, Louella Hoitt of Raymond; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandson, Edward W. Page, who died in 1996. There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in Leavitt Cemetery, Fremont, with the Rev. Kwan Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the N.H. Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., Concord, NH 03301. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. Edward F. Mears Jr. KINGSTON -- Edward F. Mears Jr., 82, of Windsong Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at the Brigham Manor Nursing Home, Newburyport, Mass. He was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Essex, Mass., the son of Edward F. and Marjorie (Atwater) Mears Sr. He was raised in Essex and had resided in West Newbury, Mass. for 20 years, in Lynn, Mass., for 15 years and in Hill before moving to Kingston four years ago. He was a 1937 graduate of Essex High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Mears was a school teacher in the sheet metal class at Lynn Trade School, now known as Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, retiring in 1980. He had previously worked for General Electric Co. in Lynn. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and was an honorary member of the Newburyport, Mass., Lynn, Bristol, Kingston and Andover lodges. He was awarded the Major John Sullivan Award. He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 0291 in Lynn. The widower of Barbara (Handy) Mears, who died in 2000, he is survived by one son and his wife, David and Peggy Mears of Newburyport; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Rafe Blood of Kensington, and Elizabeth and Peter Tingley of Newbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, David A Mears of Essex; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in Kensington Congregational Church, with the Rev. David Lennox officiating.
