Evans KINGSTON -- Madeline Louise Evans, 75, of Main Street, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 13, 1927, in Kingston, the daughter of the late Morton E. and Helen A. (Page) Robie and was a lifelong resident of Kingston. She was a 1945 graduate of Sanborn Seminary. Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She attended Kingston Congregational Church. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Arthur W. Evans Jr. of Kingston; two sons and their wives, Arthur "Skip" Evans III and Carol Ann of Campton and Kevin S. and Julie Evans of Milan; one daughter and her husband, Kelly Ann and Victor Witham of Exeter; six grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn J. Robie of Kingston; three brothers, Loren Robie and Forrest Robie, both of Kingston, and Carroll G. Robie of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley M. Robie and Bernard E. Robie. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston. Alexander de Coninck Garroway STRATHAM -- Alexander George de Coninck Garroway, 19, died Oct. 18, 2002, at his home. "Big Al" lives on in the hearts of all who love him. He is survived by family members in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, California and France. Private burial was at Abel's Hill in Chilmark, Mass. Lawson RYE -- Sarah Lee Lawson, 92, of Washington Road, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Webster at Rye. She was born in Jefferson, S.C., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lula (Horton) Ogburn. She had resided South Kingstown, R.I., most of her life moving to Rye four years ago. She was a graduate of Winthrop College in South Carolina and received her master's degree from Hartford Seminary, Hartford, Conn. Mrs. Lawson was a kindergarten teacher in the South Kingstown school system for many years. She was a member of the Peace Dale Congregational Church. The widow of the Rev. Robert V. Lawson, former pastor of Peace Dale Congregational Church, she is survived by one daughter, Lucretia Cupples of Rehoboth, Mass.; one son, Peter O. Lawson of Germany; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Charles L. Norton NEWMARKET -- Charles L. Norton, 99, formerly of Packers Falls Road, died October 24, 2002, at Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center. He was born July 14, 1903, in Newmarket, the son of Carl E. and Elsie (French) Norton, whose family was the holder of a King's Grant of land in Newmarket. He wintered in New Port Richey, Fla., from 1970 until 1986. Mr. Norton was a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1968. After retiring he built several homes in the area, the last of which was started when he was 75 years old. He was awarded the Boston Post Cane from Newmarket on January 18, 2001, as recognition for being the oldest resident of the town. The widower of Ruth L. (Morse) (Roulo) Norton, who died in 1995, he is survived by one son, Robert E. Norton of Dover; four stepchildren, William Roulo and Philip Roulo, both of Newmarket, Sandra LaBranche of Stratham and Margaret Sklarski of Deerfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Wade, 75, of Fernald Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, in Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla. She was born in Portsmouth moving to Florida in 1993 from Ipswich, Mass., having been a winter visitor since 1987. Mrs. Wade was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and sewing. She is survived by her husband, Ed Wade; three sons, Robert Wade and Michael Wade, both of Ipswich, and Stephen Wade of Leominster, Mass.; two daughters, Linda Smolack of Seabrook and Lynne Rawak of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Belanger, 94, formerly of 41 South St., died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood. She was born March 13, 1908, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Doric and Emma (Nichols) Baillargeon and was a lifelong resident of Exeter. Mrs. Belanger was a spinner for Exeter Manufacturing Company for many years. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter, and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. The widow of Theodore N. Belanger Jr., she is survived by three sons, Louis T. Belanger of Dover, Donald F. Belanger of Raymond and Nelson D. Belanger of North Conway; one daughter, Virginia C. Bernier of Exeter; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Amede Baillargeon of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Edward D. Belanger. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. Helene Jalbert KINGSTON -- Helene Jalbert, 92, of Dulcie Point Road, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Exeter Hospital. She was born March 14, 1910, in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry and Jeannette (Provencal) Greenwood. She had resided in Kingston for 47 years and had previously lived in Laconia and in Exeter for 20 years. Mrs. Jalbert worked in the packaging department of Wise Shoe Co. of Exeter for 35 years. The widow of Herbert L. Roberts, who died in 1980, she is survived by her close friend, Flip Bilodeau of Kingston. Funeral services were held Monday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, with the Rev. Finnegan officiating. Burial was in Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond. Estelle T. Martin ALTON -- Estelle T. (Decatur) Martin, 90, of Main Street, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at her home. She was born April 15, 1912, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of the late Lewis F. and Flora (Lichtenstein) Tallman. She had resided in Alton since 1965 coming from Kingston. She wintered in Boynton Beach, Fla., for 33 years. Mrs. Martin was a bookkeeper with Narragansett Electric, Phillips Exeter Academy, Palm Beach Country Club in Florida, and for her late husband. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kingston; a member of the Alton Garden Club; and past president of the Perry Village Ladies Club in Boynton Beach. She enjoyed yard sales, bingo, knitting mittens for needy children and gardening. The widow of Dr. Edwin F. Decatur, she is survived by three sons and their wives, Lee T. and Patricia R. Decatur of Chester, Vt., E. Forrest and Estelle M. Decatur Jr. of East Kingston, and Stephen H. and Yinghua M. Decatur of Alton; one daughter, Mary R. Decatur of Cornish Flat; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Adine Bakie of Kingston; and one cousin, Charles Tallman of Rye. She was predeceased by one son, Clarence B. Decatur II; a daughter-in-law, Theresa L. Decatur; and two brothers, Lewis and Warren Tallman. Funeral services were held Saturday in the C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home with the Rev. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Doris L. O'Brien DOVER -- Doris L. "Dot" O'Brien, 87, of 10 Arbor Drive, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover. She was born May 27, 1915, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry T. and Susan (Pardy) Curtis. She had lived in Everett, Mass., Kingston and Hampton before moving to Dover in 1995. She was a graduate of Arlington (Mass.) High School. Mrs. O'Brien had been employed at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood. She had previously been a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She was past president of the Hamilton School PTA in Everett; a charter member and the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1088, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kingston; and was a member of the Hampton Senior Citizens Club. The widow of John F. O'Brien, her husband of 50 years, she is survived by one son, Jack O'Brien of North Hampton; one daughter, Carol O'Brien of Dover; one daughter-in-law, Gina O'Brien of Hampton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harding "Curt" Curtis of Claremont; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Hampton United Methodist Church, Hampton. Burial was in Holbrook Cemetery, Candia.
