Appleton RAYMOND - Arthur E. Appleton, 71, of Fremont Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Exeter after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Roland L. and Lillian V. (Taylor) Appleton. He was raised in Lynn and had resided in Raymond for 25 years. He was educated in Lynn schools and was a 1991 graduate of Essex Agricultural School in Danvers, Mass. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War retiring as a master sergeant. Mr. Appleton was a teacher’s aide at the Lamprey River Elementary School and Raymond Middle School for nine years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; a member of the Queen City Pool League, Manchester; the Deerhead Sportsman Club, Hooksett. He enjoyed collecting stamps. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Beaulieu) Appleton of Raymond; one son, Donald Appleton of Berwick, Maine; three daughters, Donna Howell of Exeter, Claire Sutton of Londonderry and Cindy Appleton of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Hardy of Conway and Jane Nevins of Salem, Mass.; one brother, Robert Appleton of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond, with the Rev. Kwan Lee officiating. Bergeron RAYMOND - Shirley R. Bergeron, 79, of Ledgewood Lane, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Exeter Hospital. She was born May 31, 1923, in Haverhill, Mass, the daughter of the late Howard S. and Ruth (Brown) George. She was raised in Haverhill and had resided in Salem before moving to Raymond. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School. Mrs. Bergeron was a personnel manager for 20 years retiring from the City of Haverhill. She was a secretary for G.S. Rutherford, D.C., from 1978 until 1985. She worked at Cate’s Garbage Co. and then as a part-time clerk with Green Thumb for the town of Raymond for 10 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and writing. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Smith of Fremont; two sons, Richard G. Morton of Plaistow and James M. Morton of Deerfield; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan George of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Clark, 97, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Amherst, Va., after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 10, 1904, in Auburn, the daughter of the late Percy and Jenny (Brooks) Proctor and had been a longtime resident of Fremont. She had resided in Lynchburg since 1979. Mrs. Clark was a shoe worker in Raymond for many years. She attended People’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fremont grange, where she participated in their monologues and plays. She was a 4H leader in Fremont. The widow of Leslie C. Clark, she is survived by one son and his wife, Arthur and Mary Ann Clark of Lynchburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Florence and Earl Turner of Buckfield, Maine and Marie Nelson of Linkoping, Sweden; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carry Magoon of Dover; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Proctor; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Fremont. Colton FRANKLIN, Mass. - Anne Elizabeth Colton, 69, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, while visiting her son in Danville. She was born April 27, 1933, in Boston the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Grover) Lyons. She had resided in Dedham and West Roxbury, Mass. She was a graduate of Roslindale High School. Mrs. Colton was a supervisor at Wrentham State School for 12 years. She had previously been employed as a home health aide, a receptionist for the Hood Rubber Co. in Watertown, Mass., and a legal secretary. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Norman F. Colton; four sons and their wives, John F. and Michelle Colton of Palmdale, Calif., James R. and Charlotte Colton of Santa Barbara, Calif., Matthew J. and Robin Colton of North Berwick, Maine, and Michael P. and Deborah Colton of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and one sister, Joan Schulz of Millis, Mass. She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Lyons. Funeral services were held Monday in the Church of Christ, Millis, with the Rev. Arthur R. Curtis officiating. Demaine DANVILLE - Richard F. Demaine, 82, of 46 Pine St., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Danville, the son of Merritt F. and Ethel L. (Rumery) Demaine, and lived on Pine Street his whole life. He was a 1938 graduate of Sanborn Seminary, Kingston. Mr. Demaine was a poultry farmer for more than 20 years. He delivered oil for Duston’s Oil Co. of Plaistow and worked at Bailey Corporation in Seabrook for 17 years, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement he worked part time at Cheney’s Lumber Mill in Kingston and volunteered at Exeter Healthcare. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing and his camp on Ossipee Lake. Mr. Demaine was an active member of Danville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, financial secretary and taught Sunday school. The widower of Natalie E. (Newcomb) Demaine, who died in 1988, he is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard D. and Nancy Demaine of Windham, Douglas J. and Debra Demaine of Tamworth, Philip D. and Elizabeth Demaine of Epping and David K. Demaine of Chocorua; one daughter, Janet L. Demaine and her dear friend Sharon L. Griffin of Newmarket; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Barbara Kelley of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Herrick and Marion Sanborn, and one brother, Harland Demaine. Tessie Dolan HAWTHORNE, N.J. - Tessie (Waytowich) Dolan, 79, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. She was born April 27, 1923, in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Dolan was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church, Wyckoff, N.J. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Linda and Dennis Mihaly of Foxboro, Mass; one son, Tim Dolan of Raymond; and four grandchildren. Hamilton Jr., 46, of Little Sunapee Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his home following a brief illness. He was born June 19, 1956, in Boston, the son of William E. and Anna (Meade) Hamilton. He had resided in Raymond and in Stoneham, Mass., before moving to New London two years ago. He was a 1974 graduate of Northeast Voc-Tech High School with a degree in culinary arts. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a cook from 1974 to 1976. Mr. Hamilton was a chef with Fitz & Voight Food Service Co. for many years. He is survived by two daughters, Shawna Dembro of Epping and Katy Hamilton of Auburn; and one sister, Henrietta of Oregon. Holmes Sr. WICHITA FALLS, Tex. - Master Sergeant Earl C. Holmes Sr. (USAF Ret.), 67, died Nov. 9, 2002, in Wichita Falls. He was born Oct. 23, 1935, in Exeter, the son of the late John and Helen (Rumrill) Holmes, and had resided in Wichita Falls for 28 years. He served with the U.S. Air Force for 23-1/2 years. He enjoyed woodworking, music and collected books and stamps. He was an avid bowler in military and civilian leagues and enjoyed billiards and the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by one son, Earl Holmes Jr. of Iowa Park, Texas; five grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Nickerson of Brentwood and Kay LeClair of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Cynthia Matick and Josephine Pelczar; and two brothers, Forrest and Robert Holmes. Harold E. Lovering SANDOWN - Harold E. Lovering, 94, formerly of Sargent Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Integrated Health Services of Derry. He was born April 2, 1908, in West Lebanon. He came to Sandown in 1909 and settled in his grandparents’ home on Sargent Road. He resided at 74 Sargent Road for 60 years. Mrs. Lovering was a carpenter for many years and sharpened saws in his shop for many years. He was a master storyteller and enjoyed bird watching, gardening, carpentry, reading and watching old Westerns on television. He had a special fondness for the Sandown and Chester fire departments. The widower of Nellie (Luce) Lovering, who died in 1995, he is survived by two brothers, Ernest True of Raymond, and Raleigh True of Albany, Vt.; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Fire Chief Irving Bassett of Sandown. Parshley, 63, of Great Pond Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, West Roxbury, Mass., after a lengthy illness. He was born July 16, 1939, in Exeter, the son of the late Elmer and Vivian (Shaw) Parshley and was a lifelong resident of Kingston. He was a graduate of Sanborn Regional High School and was a U.S. Army veteran stationed at the Berlin Wall. Mr. Parshley was a truck driver for LaPerle Construction, Exeter, for 12 years and for the Kingston Highway Department for 1-1/2 years. He enjoyed working outdoors chopping wood and making model trucks. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara (Mohan) Parshley of Kingston; one son, Jeremiah Parshley of Olanta, S.C.; two daughters, Tammy Shaw of Gloversville, N.Y., and Tracey Parshley of Epping; five grandchildren; one brother, Robert Parshley of Anderson, Ind.; one sister, Martha McGhee of Junction City, Ore.; one aunt, Florence Friend of Kingston; two uncles, Raymond Townsend of Florida and Ernest Bernier of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews. (Kozel) Skreslet, 64, of Amesbury Landing, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. She was born in Phoenix, Ariz., and resided in Newburyport, Mass., before moving to Amesbury six years ago. She was a graduate of Laurel Wood Academy, Gaston, Ore., and attended nursing school and secretarial school. Mrs. Skreslet was a customer service representative at Bixby International of Newburyport. She had previously worked as a secretary at Raytheon and also in retail sales at area companies. She raised and showed standard poodles at area dog shows for many years. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Dana and John Trahan of Kingston; one son, Eric R. Skreslet of Woburn, Mass.; one grandson; two sisters, Judith Goronzy of Ohio and Nancy Chapin of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Jane Quimby, 79, formerly of Kingston, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Portsmouth. She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Rochester, and was raised by Moreau and Nellie Burnham. She had resided in Kingston since 1989 coming from Exeter and Merrimac, Mass. Mrs. Quimby owned and operated Jane’s Beauty Shop in Merrimac and the Kingston Beauty & Thrift Shop in Kingston. She was also a cashier in the Exeter Hospital cafeteria for several years. The widow of Howard F. Quimby Jr. who died in 1976, she is survived by one son, Leigh M. Quimby of Exeter; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Daly of Fremont. She was predeceased by one son, Gordon Quimby, who died in 1978. Private graveside services will be held in the spring in Union Cemetery, Newton. Pierce, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood. He was born in China, Maine, and was a longtime resident of Malden, Mass. He was a graduate of Erskine Academy and was U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1935 until 1941. Mr. Pierce retired from General Electric Co. in 1974 after 35 years of service. He began his career in the gear plant and later became a jet engine specialist who worked on the first jet engine built in this country in 1942. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Hampstead, where he served as a lay reader. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member and past master of the Mt. Vernon Lodge, Malden; Past High Priest of Tabernacle Royal Arch Chapter, Malden; past district deputy and Grand High Priest of the Eighth District; and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He is survived by his wife, Pauline E. (Roelants) Pierce; one son and his wife, Edward J. and Marion Pierce of Arlington, Mass.; one daughter, Anne M. Gannon of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Vaughn Pierce of China; one sister, Juanita Thomas of China; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Linda Sue Pierce; and one grandson, Stephen Pierce. Private burial was held at the convenience of the family.
