Permission recieved to include in the USGenWeb Archives LORNA DOON Miss Lorna Doon, 76, of West Stewartstown, died on Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital. Miss Doon was born on January 23, 1927 in Natick, Mass., the daughter of the late James W. and Helen (Sheehan) Doon. Miss Doon attended public school in Henniker, N.H., and was graduated in 1945. She was graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1949 and earned a masterıs degree from Boston University in 1956, and completed many hours beyond her masterıs from various colleges. She taught at Whitman and Newton, Mass., before going overseas in 1956 with DODDSA tutoring the children of military personnel. She spent a year in France, Germany, Japan and Morocco, three years in London, England, back to France, then one year at Brize Norton in the Cotswold in England before going to Lakenheath, England, where she bought a house in 1980. She returned home in 1989 to care for her mother and brother. Since the death of her mother in 1992 she has traveled extensively and volunteered as a docent at the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord and the Henniker Historical Society. She attended classes at LINEC, a part of New England College of Henniker. Miss Doon is survived by two brothers, James W. Doon Jr. of Alexandria, Va. and Thomas Doon of Rutland, Vt.; her sister, Ellen Sipe,of Canaan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Tippins, of Jacksonville, Fla., and her brother, Alan Doon, of Henniker. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Canaan on Saturday, July 12 at 1 p.m., with The Reverend Daniel Deveau officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather at the home of Melanie and Craig Reese immediately following the services. An interment service will be held at the convenience of the family in the New Cemetery in Henniker, N.H. Expressions of sympathy in Miss Doonıs memory may be made to the Tucker Free Library in Henniker in the names of her parents, James and Helen Doon. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home of Colebrook. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RICHARD J. GOULD Richard John Gould died on Friday, July 4, 2003 at his home in Appleton, Maine. Born in Colebrook on June 11, 1924, he was the son of Lee and Bessie (Jeffers) Gould. He was married to Olive DeWolfe Gushee on June 28, 1942 in Appleton. Mr. and Mrs. Gould lived in Colebrook for several years where he farmed, sold Christ-mas trees and drove a pulp truck. In 1952 they moved to Appleton, where Mr. Gould worked for B.M. Clark in Union; Sproul Brothers Lumber Company in Searsmont; Penobscot Poultry in Belfast; Lime Products in Union; and in his later years owned and operated his own construction business. Mr. Gould was active in community affairs, having served as road commissioner, selectman and fire chief. For many years, he sanded and plowed town roads in Appleton, and he drove a school bus. The family includes two sons, Alan Gould and his wife, Carol, David Gould and his wife, Brenda and their two daughters, and Rosemary Lavway, all of Appleton; Marguerite "Daisy" Johnson and her husband Jarvis of Camden; a sister, Marion Wheeler of San Diego, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Olive (Gushee) Gould in 1992; a son, Dennis Gould in 1969; a son-in-law, John Lavway in 1994; a grandson, Dennis Lavway in 1970; and five brothers, Everett, Celon, Claude, Lester and Rollin Hodge. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday evening, July 8 at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home in Camden. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at the Appleton Baptist Church, with the Pastor Mark Adolphsen officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Appleton. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Appleton Baptist Church Building Fund, 228 Searsmont Rd., Appleton, ME 04862. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NANCY MOSHER Nancy Mosher, 46, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Weeks Medical Center-Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lancaster after a short illness. She was born in Lancaster on October 4, 1956, the daughter of Basil and Everdean (Bean) Heath. A lifelong resident of Lancaster, she was a 1974 graduate of White Mountains Regional High School. She loved to garden and was also a certified nurse's aide. She served many years as an active member of the Lancaster Ambulance Corps, was a member of the John W. Weeks Post VFW Auxiliary and very active in its Toys for Tots program. Mrs. Mosher worked 13 years for Weeks Memorial Hospital and more recently worked as office manager for Dr. William Lakey at the Littleton Regional Hospital for 13 years. Family members include her husband, Tom Mosher of Lancaster; her daughter, Carissa Flynn, of Lancaster; three sisters, Bonnie Brousseau of Canaan, Vt., Louise Lufkin and Debra Nutting, both of Lancaster; brother, Jeffrey Heath, of Jefferson; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial visiting hours were held on Sunday, July 6 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. Graveside services were held on Monday at the Summer Street Cemetery in Lancaster. Olson, 64, of Clarksville died on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at the Dartmouth-Hit-chcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was born on November 26, 1938 in Worcester, Mass., the son of Ernest and Mabel (Crafve) Olson. Mr. Olson attended school in Worcester, and was married to Patricia Wilga on June 25, 1960. Mr. Olson served six years in the Massachusetts Air National Guard and was employed by New England Power Service in Westbrook, Mass., for over 38 years. Mr. and Mrs. Olson moved to Clarksville in 2000. Most recently he was employed part time at Coös Auto Supply in Colebrook, and he plowed snow for the town of Clarksville during the winter. Mr. Olson enjoyed family life and working on his trucks in the backyard. Mr. Olson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Olson of Clarksville; a son, Mark Olson of Auburn, Mass.; two daughters, Debra Morabito of Stewartstown and Mrs. Brian (Theresa) Bissonnette of Stewartstown; a sister Ruth Gadymin of Sutton, Mass.; six grandchildren and one on the way. He was predeceased by a grandson, Joey Morabito, in 2000. Contributions in memory of Roy E. (Poulin) Platt, 66, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at her sonıs home in New Port Richey, Fla. Born on July 13, 1936 in Jackman, Maine, she was the daughter of Willie Noel and Eugene Simonne (Champagne) Poulin. She moved to the Stratford area as a child. She was married to Robert H. Platt for 44 years. She lived most of her life in the Groveton-Stratford area, moving to St. Petersburg 13 years ago. She worked at the Derby Lane Dog Track for some time, but was a housewife and mother for most of her married life. Rita was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, and Holy Family Church in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Platt is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert H. Platt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven children, Melody J. Everette of Anchorage, Alaska, Dana R. Platt of Bryan Station, Texas, Catherine L. Lunn of Berlin, Sandra L. Hand of Bloomfield, Robert H. Platt Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Dennis M. Platt of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mark D. Platt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her mother, Eugene S. (Champagne) Poulin, of Island Pond; two brothers, Lawrence Poulin of Pensacola, Fla. and Joseph Poulin of Hartford, Conn.; three sisters, Anita King of Island Pond, Francis Tetreault of Stratford and Rose Morris of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Denise Curtis. Calling hours were held on Tuesday, July 8 at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home in Groveton with a recitation of the Rosary in the evening. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Father Craig Cheney officiating. Burial followed in St. Francis Cemetery.
