Permission recieved to include in the USGenWeb Archives FRANKLIN BURT Mr. Franklin "Frank" D. Burt, 73, of Stewartstown, died on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital. Mr. Burt was born on February 17, 1930 in St. Johnsbury, the son of the late Carl and Geneva Burt. He spent much of his youth in Lunenburg, where he was very adventurous and had many friends. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany and Korea. He enjoyed working in the woods and he will be remembered for his love of his children and grandchildren. Mr. Burt is survived by his five children, Philip Potter and wife Mary of Colebrook, Patty Wallis and husband Hugh of Stanstead, Quebec, Janice Burt of Colebrook, Matthew "Doc" Burt of North Stratford, and Kelly Eldred and husband Kevin of Colebrook; three brothers, Alex, Doug and Stewart; a sister, Beverly; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Burt is preceded in death by four brothers. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m. in the Colebrook Village Cemetery, with The Reverend Gary Clark officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOSEPHINE FEARON Mrs. Josephine Julia (Schoff) Fearon, 92, of Canaan, died peacefully at her residence with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Mrs. Fearon was born on May 12, 1911 at her family home on Indian Stream Road in Pittsburg, the daughter of the late Perley Ray and Lizzie Annie (Johnson) Schoff. She was graduated from Plymouth Normal School in 1931 and taught in Stewartstown and Pittsburg. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, played the organ, sang in the choir, served as lay speaker and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Music was an important part of her life, and she also enjoyed playing the organ for the Beecher Falls Methodist Church and the Bloomfield Methodist Church. She was an active member in several civic organizations such as the Pythian Sisters, the Aurora Grange, 4-H, and the Senior Companion program. She was an excellent homemaker and she assisted her late husband in writing and publishing his many books. Mrs. Fearon is survived by her family members Juana Schoff of Canaan; Joel Fearon and his wife Ruth of Vergennes, Vt., Shellie Bresnahan and husband Michael of Berlin; Janice Jackson and husband, Carroll "Tom", of Colebrook; Mrs. James (Mary) Fearon of Lyndonville, Vt.; Bernice Fish of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fearon is preceded in death by her loving husband, Perley E. Fearon, in 1972, and her son, James Fearon, in 2003. A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan with The Reverend Rodney Dobbs officiating. Fellows, 74, of Colebrook, died on Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster. Mr. Fellows was born on August 25, 1928 in Stewartstown, the son of the late Herbert and Lucy (Owen) Fellows, and the brother of five siblings who predeceased him; Esther, Oswald, Donald, Edith and Herman. He is survived by a brother, Alvin Fellows, of Newport, Vt.; six nephews and nieces, Keith "Joe" Fellows and Shawna of Stratford, David Frizzell and Holly of Lyndonville, Vt., Scott Frizzell and Lorraine of Claremont, Brenda LePage of Bonita Springs, Fla., Katie Fellows and Matt of Derry, and Michael Fellows of Stewartstown. He is preceded in death by a niece, Judy Brown. He is also survived by several cousins of the Owen family and a very special friend, Jesse Carney, of Stewartstown. Mr. Fellows was a farmer all is life, and he loved his work. He especially enjoyed his cows, all of which he raised from calves, named and tended all is working life. He served in the Army in the Medical Corps during the Korean War from 1951-53. He had many friends who bought hay from him and enjoyed his sharp sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. A funeral service was conducted on Monday afternoon, July 14 at the All Saints Anglican Church in East Hereford with The Reverend Ronald R. Owen and The Reverend Robert D. Bryan co-officiating. (Robertson) Gadwah, 80, of Franklin, Mass., and formerly of Virginia and of Colebrook, died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I., on June 14, 2003. She was born on June 11, 1923 in Roanoke, Va., daughter of the late Andrew L. and Josephine V. (McCool) Robertson. Mrs. Gadwah worked as a librarian for Digital Corp. in Marlboro, Mass., for 30 years until her retirement in 1992. She went to work at age 19 at the Marine Base in Quantico, Va. The family includes two sisters, Betty Jane Cundiff and Mary Ellen Chapman of Virginia; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and two step-great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Gadwah in 1980; by a son, Randel Gadwah; three brothers, Harry B., Andrew L. (Jr.) and Jack Lee Robertson; and a grandson, Bernard Gadwah. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 27 at the Bellingham Bible Baptist Church in Bellingham, Mass. Graveside services and interment were held at the Colebrook Village Cemetery on Saturday, July 12. Arrangements were under the direction of Cartier's Funeral Home in Bellingham, Mass. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IRENE HAYNES Irene A. Haynes, 83, of Stewartstown, died on Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. She was born on December 8, 1919 in Berlin, the daughter of John and Marie (Duke) LaBrie. Mrs. Haynes attended school in Berlin. She was employed for several years by Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Beecher Falls, and by Tillotson Rubber in Dixville Notch. Mrs. Haynes enjoyed bowling and Bingo, and was a 57-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Canaan. Mrs. Haynes is survived by a son, Dean Haynes, of Beecher Falls; a daughter, Beverly Semprebon, of Rochester, N.H.; two sisters, Evette Allen of Springfield, Mass., and Annette Fornier of Berlin; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Murray Haynes, and a brother, Lionel LaBrie. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan's Cemetery in Colebrook, with the Reverend Rodney Dobbs officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Newman Funeral Home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IDA MICKELBORO Mrs. Ida Mae (Powell) Mickelboro, 90, of West Stewartstown, died on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital. Mrs. Mickelboro was born on October 19, 1912 in Stratford, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Sweet) Powell. She attended school in Colebrook and was married to her late husband, Stewart Mickelboro, on December 10, 1930. She had lived on Wash-ington Street in West Stewartstown since 1946, raising three children and caring for her home. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters of West Stewartstown. Mrs. Mickelboro is survived by her three children, Elizabeth "Betty" C. Frizzell of Gloversville, N.Y., Robert A. Mickelboro of Leavenworth, Kan. and Richard S. Mickelboro of Johns Island, S.C.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Mickelboro is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stewart Mickelboro, in 1995, and by one brother and two sisters. Calling hours were held on Sunday, July 13 at the All Faiths Funeral Chapel in West Stewartstown. A funeral was conducted on Monday morning, July 14 at the funeral chapel, with The Reverend Robert D. Bryan officiating. An interment service followed at the Alice Hunt Cemetery in Canaan. Those who wish to attend may meet at Bunnellıs Sales and Service on Route 102; Max's brother, Dean, will lead the party to Boulder Creek. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this celebration of Max's life. There will be an opportunity for anyone who would like to share memories and photos of Max. A reception will be held following the service at the Spa Restaurant in Stewartstown. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PATRICIA PIERCE Patricia (Perry) Owen Pierce, 74, of Jaffrey, died on July 11, 2003 after a long illness. She leaves her husband of 11 years, Rodney J. Pierce. Her first husband, Haven Owen, died in 1990. She leaves three sons, David W. Owen of Gainesville, Va., Col. Gregory S. Owen, USAF, of Leesburg, Va., and Rev. Barry L. Owen, who serves as a missionary in Taiwan; four stepchildren, Sharon Townsend of Glover, Vt., Jacquelyn Pierce and Jonathan Pierce, both of Waltham, Maine, and Miriam LeBlanc of Newport Center, Vt.; a brother, Capt. Alfred L. Perry, USMC, ret., of Cincinnati, Ohio, and formerly of Lancaster, Mass.; eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and many loving friends. Mrs. Pierce was born on March 6, 1929 in Everett, Mass., daughter of Alfred L. and Stella (Fraze) Perry Sr. Mrs. Pierce had lived for 30 years in Cheshire, Conn., and had lived in Jaffrey since 1992. She retired several years ago from the Wallingford, Conn., public school system, where she had been a special education teacher. She was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church in Cheshire and active in many facets of the church. She attended Highland Baptist Church in Fitchburg, Mass. She was a graduate of Cushing Academy Ashburnham and Southern Connecticut State College. The funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. in the Highland Baptist Church, 19 Cedar St., Fitchburg. Burial will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Colebrook Village Cemetery in Colebrook. Calling hours were held on Tuesday evening at the Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home in Fitchburg. Smith, 62, of Keene, and formerly of Colebrook, died on Saturday morning at his home following a period of failing health. He was born in Stewartstown on October 18, 1940, the son of Glen B. and Ruth E. (Kenny) Smith. Mr. Smith had been a foreman of CTI Techtonics. He was well known in the Colebrook and Pittsburg area as an electrician and general contractor. He had served as a volunteer with the Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include two sons, Keith Smith and Rodney Smith of Colebrook; two daughters, Barbara Rowe of Colebrook and Janet Jorgeenson of Manchester; and his longtime companion Sheila Sperry of Keene; five brothers, Robert Kenny of Errol, William (Bill) Smith of Tuscon, Ariz., Edwin Smith of Brooks-ville, Fla., Herbert Smith of Stratford, and Howard Smith of Manchester; four sisters, Rose LaRoche of Ocala, Fla., Alice Huntley of Raymond, June Erno of Londonderry and Jenny Ayotte of Port Richey, Fla.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Glenn B. Smith Jr., predeceased him. There will be no public services in Keene, and there are no public calling hours. She was born in New York City in 1906. Mrs. Stein spent over fifty summers at her summer home, Sleepy Hollow, on Cottage Road at Averill Lake. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1978. Mrs. Stein is survived by her two children, Audrey Froman and husband David of Miami, Okla., and Harold Stein and wife Gael of St., Johnsbury; nine grandchildren and numerous great-and great-great-grandchildren. Plans are being made for a gathering in her memory at the cottage on Averill Lake later this summer.
