Permission recieved to include in the USGenWeb Archives OLLIE "DICK" BUCKNER Ollie "Dick" Buckner of Hillsdale, Mich., died on June 20, 2003 in Marion, Ohio, after a period of failing health. He was born on October 18, 1951 in Sand Hook, Ky., to the late Ollie and Nora (Smith) Buckner. At the time of his death he was employed at Teleflex Automotive in Hillsdale. He lived in the Colebrook area for several years. He was a licensed cosmetologist and one of the original partners of the Hats' Off salon, and worked at several other salons in the area. He also worked at the Balsams Hotel and Colebrook Country Club, and at Bose Corp., with whom he transferred to Hillsdale in 1993. He is survived by three sisters, Brenda Conley of Marion, Ohio, Mary Stansberry of Bloomington, Ohio, and Wanda Huffine of Marion; two brothers, Robert Buckner of No. Albany, W. Va., and Frank Buckner of Clay Center, Kansas; and longtime friend and companion Tim Severy of Hillsdale. There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held on June 29 at the Van-Horn Eagle Funeral Chapel in Hillsdale. At his wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Stratford. Newman Funeral Home handled the local arrangements. DUPUIS Mr. Denis G. Dupuis, 59, of Errol, died on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born in Laconia on October 8, 1943, the son of Gerard and Eugenia Dumont Dupuis. He attended Sacred Heart Schools and was graduated president of his senior class. He attended New Hampshire College in Manchester and Drake College in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he majored in marketing and sales. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow, and was active in Scouts for many years. He worked in the marine and snowmobile industry for over forty years in both retail and wholesale. He retired in 2001 to a lakeside home in Errol, where he summered for many years with his family. He was a communicant of St. Pius X as well as a lector and a chairman of the parish council. He was also the vice-president of the Umbagog snowmobile club and Errol Town Moderator. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, camping and travel. His hobbies were photography, exploring North Country heritage, antique snowmobiles and Diamond Willow woodcrafts. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan; son, Daniel of Concord; daughter Michelle Whitten of Fort Knox, Ky.; and his father, Gerard Dupuis, of Berlin. He is also survived by his sister, Susanne Fecteau, of Tilton, and his brother, Paul Dupuis, of Meredith. His mother predeceased him. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, July 22 at the St. Pius X Church in Errol. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends called on Monday, July 21 at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home in Berlin. Donations envelopes are available at the funeral home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JONATHAN HOWES Airman First Class Jonathan H. Howes, of Enfield, Conn., will be reinterred at the South Canaan Cemetery in Canaan on July 25, 2003. He died on December 4, 1979, at the age of 21. Airman Howes was born in Hartford, Conn, on November 28, 1958. He was a graduate of Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, Vt., where he was a boarding student. He was stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth at the time of his death. Airman Howes was an avid fly fisherman, hunter and lover of the outdoors. While in the service, he was attending college to earn a degree to become a Fish and Game officer. The familyıs warmest and fondest memories of him were at their camp on Big Averill Lake, where he spent his summers with his mother and family. It has always been in the family's wish to return him to the North Country that he loved. Airman Howes is survived by his mother, Florence Howes, of Canaan; his father, now deceased, Maurice Howes of Enfield, Conn.; his sisters, Holly Loganbill of Mansfield, Pa., Beth St. Onge of Stewartstown, and Jenifer Egan of Farming-ton, Conn.; and his brother, Seann Xenja, of Mill Valley, Calif. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 3 p.m. at the South Canaan Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Northland American Legion, Post #47 of Canaan. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home of Colebrook. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ARTHUR SWEATT Mr. Arthur "Panther" Fay Sweatt, 89, of Colebrook, died on Saturday morning, July 19, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. Mr. Sweatt was born on December 7, 1913 in Canaan, the son of the late Leon and Grace (Gray) Sweatt. In his youth, he worked on neighboring farms and cooked for loggers at camp. In 1937 he worked on a tobacco plantation in Connecticut, and in construction until returning to the North Country in 1943. He owned and operated a rubbish removal business and later worked for the Town of Colebrook at the sanitary landfill until his retirement in 1991. He will be remembered for his physical strength, having been shot twice, and for making the national news by killing a bobcat with his bare hands. He was also famous for taking in stray animals and caring for them. Mr. Sweatt is survived by two nephews, David Lachance and his wife Sue of Burlington, and Edward Haynes and is wife Betty of Florida; two nieces, Rosemary Armstrong of Burlington, and Dolly LaCava and her husband George of Connecticut; and his adopted family, Donald Hartlen of Groveton, Reona Hartlen, Patricia Clark, Juanita "Peanut" Eastman, Debra Bickford and Judy Reynolds, all of Colebrook and his very special girl, Michelle Plourde of West Stewartstown. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Sweatt, and by two sisters, Emily Haynes and Edith Lachance. Calling hours were held on Sunday morning, July 20 at the Jenkins Funeral Home, with a funeral service in the afternoon at the Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan. The Reverend Rodney Dobbs officiated. An interment service was held at the Alice Hunt Cemetery in Canaan. Pallbearers were Richard Eastman, James Reynolds, Christopher Plourde and Kelsea Eastman.
