EUGENIE M. DAIGLE Eugenie M. Daigle, 89, formerly of Jefferson, died on October 8, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown after a long illness. Mrs. Daigle was born in Ste. Henidine, Quebec, on December 31, 1913, the daughter of Jules and Zerila (Bedard) Bilodeau. One of 16 children, she was raised in Canada and moved to Bristol, Conn., in 1937. In 1948, she took up residence in Jefferson where she and her husband, Antonio Emile Daigle, operated a farm. She resided there for 53 years until she moved to the special care unit at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in July of 2000. Over the years, she helped raise 93 foster children, five to adulthood. She devoted her life to her family and had a warm spot for children. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Jeffer-son. In 1993, she was named Jefferson's citizen of the year. Family members include seven sons, Roger J. Daigle and Louis J. Daigle, both of Jefferson, Denis J. Daigle of Littleton, Richard J. Daigle of Burlington, Vt., David G. Fortin of Long Island, N.Y., Stephen Rodger of Barre, Vt., and David A. Chase of Littleton; four daughters, Aurore M. Hood and Connie M. Patnoe, both of Lancaster, Lorraine J. Patnaude of Jefferson and Carlene L. Abbott of Littleton; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1989 and a daughter, Wendy L. Doyle, in 1993. Calling hours were held on Friday afternoon and evening at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday morning at All Saints Catholic Church in Lancaster, with The Rev. Raymond Ball officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery in Lancaster. Corliss, 86, of Laconia, died at the Genesis Eldercare Network in Laconia Center on Thursday, October 9, 2003. Mr. Corliss was born on August 26, 1917 in Meredith, the son of Walter H. and Susie M. (Guard) Corliss. Mr. Corliss was a longtime resident of the Lakes Region and was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Laconia. He was a lathe operator at Scott and Williams for many years, and later worked at Improved Machinery in Nashua. Survivors include his wife, Lois E. (Gordon) Corliss of Laconia; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip M. and Jan Corliss of Colebrook; a daughter, Joy Griffith of Laconia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Abraham Corliss of Fairoaks, Calif., Walter Corliss of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Daniel Corliss of Claremont; two sisters, Mary Blake of Meredith and Harriette Monahan of Tilton; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Corliss, and by a sister, Florence Greene. Calling hours were held on Sunday evening, October 12 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia. A funeral service was held on Monday at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Laconia, with the Rev. Roy H. Ludwig, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial followed in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Great Commission Fund, 115 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246, or to the Parkinson¹s Disease Found-ation, 710 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032-9982. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RALPH HAMMOND Ralph Albert Hammond, 94, of Monroe, died on October 10, 2003 at Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill. Born on August 15, 1909 in Colebrook, he was the son of Albert and Ross (Knapp) Hammond. Raised in Colebrook, he moved to Monroe in 1945 where he was a self-employed dairy farmer until retirement in 1984. He received numerous agricultural awards in recognition of his progressive farming practices. He played a strong role in the community as a member of the Monroe Fire Department and the Monroe United Methodist Church and Men's Club. Mr. Hammond was generous with his time and support of 4-H, school, band and his neighbors. One could always count on him to be there. He was married to Althea Riley on October 9, 1934. The family includes his wife of 69 years, of North Haverhill; six daughters, Gloria Moorer, Edith Craig and Virginia Cinnamond, all of Monroe, Phyllis Keenan of East Ryegate, Vt., Barbara Farr of Monroe, and Mary Hatch of East Berkshire, Vt.; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Valaria Clark, of Corey, Pa.; two nieces and two cousins. There were no calling hours. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon in Monroe United Methodist Church, with Richard Hanson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Monroe Village Cemetery. Ricker Funeral Home of Woodsville is in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHRISTINE MANNING Christine Manning, 65, died at home from complications of Alzheimer's disease in Portsmouth on Saturday, October 11, 2003, while surrounded by her loving family and friends. Christine was born in Oquosoc, Maine on February 5, 1938, the daughter of Fulbert and Alice Caron. On June 8, 1957, she was married to Francis Manning of Island Pond. In addition to her husband Francis, Christine is survived by her four children, Gregory G. of Phoenix, Ariz., Tammie G. and Kathryn J. of Portsmouth and John F. of Marysville, Ohio; and seven grandchildren. She is survived by Hector Caron of Bloomfield, Raymond Caron of Centerville, Iowa, Roland Caron of Groveton, Marcel Caron of Phoenix, Ariz., Theresa Lavoie of Island Pond, Jackie Lakin of Orleans, Vt., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Emilian Caron, Lucille Shaw and Jean LaPerle. Christine was a quality control supervisor at Ethan Allen Furniture in Orleans, Vt., and retired in 1995. She was active in various community organizations in Island Pond. Calling hours were held on Tuesday evening at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Fun-eral Home in Island Pond. Funeral services will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 15, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. William Morgan celebrating a Mass of Christian burial.
