ALLEN Glenn W. "Butch" Allen, 59, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at his home in Averill. He was born on November 1, 1943 in Springfield, Vt., the son of Wilman and Carlene (Leonard) Allen. Mr. Allen attended Canaan schools and was a 1962 graduate of Canaan Memorial High School. He joined the Army soon after graduation. After a brief stateside assignment he was sent to combat duty in Vietnam, where he served in a mechanized infantry battalion during the war. He was discharged from the Army in 1966 and moved to Manchester, N.H., where he was employed by Tom Mcann, Preview Products and the Cotter Company. After an injury in 1988, Mr. Allen moved to Averill to recuperate for several weeks and later went to work for Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Beecher Falls, where his employment continued until March of 2003. Mr. Allen enjoyed animals, fishing, hunting and bowling. He also liked rooting for the Atlanta Braves, playing cards, especially canasta, and spending time with his family. Mr. Allen is survived by three sons Ron Allen, Tom Allen and Tim Allen, all of Merrimack; a daughter, Penney Allen of Newfield; a brother, Bill Allen of West Stewartstown; three sisters, Mrs. David (Glenna) Gray of Canaan, Mrs. John (Susan) Morrissey of South Burlington, Vt., and Mrs. William (Wilma) Steinman of Springfield, Vt.; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Allen. Calling hours were held on Friday afternoon and evening, October 17 at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, also at the funeral home. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25 at the Canaan Village Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mr. Glenn W.
