EDWARD BATCHELDER Edward S. Batchelder, 61, of Laconia, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Wednesday, October 22, 2003. Mr. Batchelder was born on June 11, 1942 in Concord, the son of Earl S. and Verna E. (Foss) Batchelder. Mr. Batchelder was raised in Colebrook and attended the Colebrook school system. He served in the Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post #1. Mr. Batchelder had been employed for the past 38 years in the maintenance of asphalt plants and as a welder. He had been employed by I-93 Asphalt for the past three years, and formerly worked for Pike Industries for 18 years and Brox Industries, Inc., for 17 years. He was a dedicated employee and trained many by sharing his knowledge, and was a mentor to his co-workers. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia (Rudzinski) Batchelder of Laconia; three children, Christina Batchelder, Jack Batchelder and his wife Shelly, and Brandy Batchelder and companion Bill DeGroot, all of Laconia: two grandchildren; his mother, Verna E. (Foss) Batchelder of Laconia; a sister, Lena F. Abbott, of Laconia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Earl S. Batchelder, in 2002. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service was held on Saturday afternoon, October 25 at the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia. Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH is in charge of the arrangements. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOSEPH BILODEAU Joseph Lucien Bilodeau, 73, of Berlin, died on October 24, 2003 in Berlin. He was born in Cascade, Gorham, on April 20, 1930, the son of Treffle and Emma (Roy) Bilodeau, and was a lifelong resident of Berlin. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and had received the Purple Heart. Mr. Bilodeau was a member of St. Anne Church, now known as Good Shepherd Parish. Prior to retirement several years ago, he was employed as a security guard at the Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch for more than 20 years. The family includes four sisters, Doris Hynes of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Rita Carr and Cecile Roy, both of Berlin, and Ida Pitre of Woonsocket, R.I.; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours were held on Sunday afternoon and evening at the Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. The funeral was on Monday in the funeral home chapel, with interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Berlin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARCEL DION Mr. Marcel Dion, 74, of Berlin, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at his residence. He was born on August 24, 1929 at Charterville, Quebec, the son of Philipe and Dorilla Sicard Dion. A resident of Berlin for the past few years, Mr. Dion was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1464 of Berlin. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a lumberjack for Johnson Paper in New York, International Paper of Vermont and for the Brown Company Woods Department in Berlin. Most recently, he had been employed in food service at the Balsams Resort Hotel in Dix-ville Notch. Mr. Dion is survived by four brothers, Lucien Dion of Orford, Quebec, Paul Emile Dion of Charterville, Gilbert Dion of East Hereford, Quebec, and Oliva Dion of Sherbrooke, Quebec; two sisters, Pauline St. Onge of Bristol, Conn., and Rejeanne Gregoire of Colebrook; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Roland Dion, and a sister, Irene Jalbert. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday afternoon, October 27 at St. Anne of Good Shepherd Parish, interment will be in the St. Kieran Cemetery. Visitation was on Monday morning until time of the service at the Fleury- Patry Funeral Home in Berlin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANNETTE DUMONT Annette Lea Dumont, 92, of Colebrook, died on Monday, October 27, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. She was born on November 6, 1910 in Bloomfield, the daughter of Evangelist and Olivine (Bergeron) Carrier. Mrs. Dumont attended school in Stratford, and was married to the late Antonio Dumont on June 15, 1931. She and her husband lived all their married years in the North Country, including Bloomfield, Lancaster and Stratford. They finally settled in Colebrook in 1948, where they raised their family and became part of the community. In the 1970s and '80s Mrs. Dumont worked as a retail clerk for Hill's Department Store in Colebrook. She was a communicant in St. Brendan's Church in Colebrook, where she was a very active member of the Catholic Women's Club. Mrs. Dumont was well known for her kind heart, strong spirit, and devotion to her family and friends. She enjoyed helping others and often knitted special gifts for relatives, friends, and those in need. Mrs. Annette L. Dumont is survived by three sons, Laurent Dumont of Bath, Ontario, Canada, Richard Dumont of Southampton, Mass., and Denis Dumont of Hillsboro, N.H.; a daughter, Mrs. Jeannine Hughes, of Springfield, Vt.; a brother, Armand Carrier, of Colebrook; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Rancourt of Stewartstown and Mrs. Lena Connary of Stratford. She is also survived by 13 beloved grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Antonio Dumont, predeceased her in 1973. Calling hours are on Wednesday, October 29, from 4-8 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 at St. Brendan's Church in Colebrook, with the Rev. Albert Bellefeuille officiating. Burial will follow at St. Brendan's Cemetery in Cole-brook. Willoughby Hancock, 95, of Lancaster, died on Friday, October 24, 2003 at Country Village Health Care Center in Lancaster. Mrs. Willoughby was born in Berlin on December 31, 1907, the daughter of Irving and Mabel (Matson) Willoughby. She was a graduate of Lancaster Academy and Plymouth Normal School. Her career was spent as a devoted teacher and librarian. She taught at schools in Colebrook, North Conway and Henniker. She was best known for her years as Lancaster Academyıs librarian. She was historically minded and a devote Democrat. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Lancaster Historical Society. Her nephew, Richard J. Willoughby of Bradford, N.H., survives her. Her husband, C. Wayne Hancock, predeceased her. Visiting hours were held on Sunday evening, October 26 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A funeral service was held on Monday morning, also at the funeral home. Rev. David Rose, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial followed at Summer Street Cemetery in Lancaster. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARY HICKS Mary Parker Hicks, 84, died on October 23, 2003 at her residence in Concord. She was born in Henniker, the daughter of Oliver and Margaret (Gunn) Parker. She served in the Marines during World War II. She managed the Green Acres Country Club before it became the Shaker Road Child Care Center. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Order of Eastern Star, and was a White Shriner. She enjoyed traveling, artwork, cooking and children. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hicks, and a son, Gregory Hicks. The family includes two sons, Robert P. Hicks of Rockledge, Fla. and Douglas W. Hicks of Concord; two daughters, Mary A. Heartz of Concord and Sharon A. Saltmarsh of Wilsons Mills, Maine; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Oliver Parker of Goffstown, Ethan Parker of Temple, and James Parker of Jamestown, Calif.; three sisters, Margaret Rice of Loudon, Marcie Landry of Claremont, and Christie Petrin of Claremont; and several nieces and nephews. Private family services were held on Monday morning at Grace Episcopal Church in Concord. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in East Concord. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robert S. Hicks Scholarship Fund, Shaker Road School, 111 Shaker Road, Concord, NH 03301. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of arrangements. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STANLEY STODDARD Stanley Titus Stoddard, 84, of Tampa, Fla., and formerly of North Haverhill, N.H., died on October 22, 2003 at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Born on May 25, 1919 in Columbia he was the son of Carroll Titus and Elle Louise (Frizzell) Stoddard. He was a graduate of Colebrook Academy and the University of New Hampshire. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was the retired owner of a New Hampshire John Deere dealership, past president of New England Equipment Dealers Association, a past member of the Lions Club International, Elks Lodge 1831, and past vice-president of the North Haverhill Fair Association. He was predeceased by his first wife of 37 years, Doris (Doud) Stoddard, and his son, Stanley T. Stoddard Jr. Family members include his wife of 20 years, Shirley (Bekkenhuia) Stoddard of Indian Lakes Estates, Fla.; a son, John Doud Stoddard, of North Haverhill; a stepdaughter, Melissa J. Knight, of Brandon, Fla.; a brother, Gerald Allen Stoddard, of North Haverhill; a sister, Eloise Nickerson Wallsteen, of Alton Bay, N.H.; three grandchildren, five step- grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at a later date in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
