BERTHA LAMOUREUX Sr. Bertha Lamoureux (Sr. Marie Josephine), 88, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester, died on November 18, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Fall River, Mass., on May 25, 1915, the daughter of Napoleon and Josephine (Blanchette) Lamoureux. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1946, made her first profession in 1949 and her final profession in 1954. Sr. Lamoureux was involved in community services in New Hampshire at Rivier College in Nashua for five years, and in West Stewartstown and Berlin for two years. She was stationed in Rhode Island for 21 years at Albion, West Warwick and Woonsocket. She also served at Oblate Center in Natick, Mass., and worked with developmentally challenged children in Wrentham, Mass. She later taught at St. Marie High School in Manchester. She retired in 1984 to St. Bernard in Keene and later transferred to Manchester. The family includes two brothers, Paul Lamoureux of Woonsocket, R.I. and Lucien Lamoureux of North Smithfield, R.I.; five sisters, Simone Remillard of Woonsocket, R.I., Rolande Pouliot of Pasco, R.I., Antoinette Lucier and Yvonne Williams, both of North Smithfield, R.I., and Rose Lacroix of California. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARLES MINKLER Charles Edward Minkler, 92, of Colebrook, died on Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. He was born on August 31, 1911 in Stamford, Conn., the son of Charles and Sadie Minkler. Mr. Minkler was a 1929 graduate of Rochester, N.H., High School, after which he served three years in the Army. He was married to Merle Rattie on December 26, 1936. After his military service Mr. Minkler was employed by Veneer mills in Hancock and Newport, Vt. In the early 1950s he moved to Stratford, where he served as a supervisor at Plywood Products, Inc. After his retirement in the mid-1970s, he and Mrs. Minkler moved to Colebrook. Mr. Minkler was an avid reader, and enjoyed fishing and family life. , Charles Edward Minkler is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Merle Minkler of Colebrook; three daughters Rosalie Quimby of Orford, Conn., Faye Lay of Lemington and Rita Hebert of Chillicothe, Ohio; two sisters; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Minkler, and by two brothers and three sisters. Calling hours were held on Thursday morning, November 20 at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. Funeral services were held at the funeral home immediately following calling hours, with the Reverend Larry Clough officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport, Vt. Treffrey, 93, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday evening, November 19, 2003 at the Country Village Health Care Center in Lancaster. Mrs. Treffrey was born in Stratford on July 27, 1910, the daughter of David and Lucy (Hapgood) McMann. Activities of her life began with the occupation of barber in North Stratford at age 16. After marriage, she spent her life in Lancaster where she worked as a nurse¹s aide at Weeks Memorial Hospital during World War II. In 1959, Velma and her husband, Fred Treffrey, owned and operated the Wip-O-Will Cabins and Dairy Bar on Bridge Street in Lancaster. Velma celebrated 67 years of marriage with Fred and was widowed in 2000. For 17 years, Velma was a Girl Scout leader in the town and started the first Senior Scout Troop. Later she called square dances in schools and hotels and at North Country festivals. For many years, Velma was an active member of the Mt. Prospect Grange; she was active with the church, and in teaching youth at the Assembly of God Church. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Visnor of Londonderry, N.H., and Muriel Trefry, administrator of Holton Point in Lancaster; a brother, Wilson McMann, of North Stratford; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, November 23 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A funeral service was held on Monday afternoon at the Lancaster Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Michael, pastor, and Rabbi Joyce Meinhardt of Lancaster co-officiated. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, Stratford.
