GISELE D. AVORE Gisele D. Avore, 79, of Gorham, died on December 18, 2003 at her home. She was born in Island Pond on June 20, 1924, the daughter of Arthur P. and Theresa A. (Cecyre) Major. Mrs. Avore had served as president and district director of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She worked as chef at the Balsams Hotel, the Glen House and the Yokohama Restaurant, among others. She taught as chef instructor at New Hampshire Technical College in Berlin and Johnson & Wales College in Providence, R.I. She had received her certificate from LeCordon Bleu in Culinary Arts in Paris in 1973, and worked as a pastry chef in La Patisserie in the Eiffel Tower. Her special memories include having been to Medjugorje and Conyers, Ga., for special pilgrimages to the Heavenly Mother, giving testimonies in churches in Canada and Berlin, and guest speaker at a Charismatic Congress in St. Helene, Quebec. During retirement, she visited the Coös County Nursing Home in Berlin every Sunday with a program for residents known as "Sharing with Gisele." She spoke at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home for special occasions, and was Eucharist Minister at Holy Family Catholic Church attending at the Coös County Nursing Home. She was a member of Golden Age and Motivated Elderly Self Help, MESH, participating in a variety of entertainment shows and outings. She was Ms. Senior New Hampshire in 1996, participating in the National Pageant in Biloxi, Miss., receiving the most humorous award. Family members include three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (JoAnn) Lambertson of Gorham, Mrs. John (Denise) Keay of Huntington, Mass., and Mrs. Harvey (Elizabeth) Stoneburner of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Pauline) Sanschagrin of Cascade, Gorham; Mrs. Herbert (Claire) Napert of Rockledge, Fla, Helene Allison of New Haven, Ind., and Mrs. Harold (Claudette) Tankard of Manchester; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours were held on Tuesday at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester with the funeral following immediately in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Giving Program, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford 03110-5032. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROGER BROOKS Roger "Brooksie" Brooks, 39, of Kingston, N.H., died on Thursday evening, December 18, 2003 at the York Medical Center in York, Maine, following complications from a December 7 heart attack. Mr. Brooks was born on January 29, 1964 in West Stewartstown, the son of William and the late Doreen M. (Andrews) Brooks. He was graduated from Colebrook Academy in 1982. After graduation joined the Army, where he served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic from 1982-1985 in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Richardson, Alaska. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for several tree nurseries in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. For the past 12 years, he has been a heavy equipment/crane operator for Wood Trucking Corporation in Peabody, Mass. He enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, going to NASCAR races in New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and making quick trips to the Mohican Sun Casino. Mr. Brooks is survived by his father, William Brooks of Colebrook, and friend Francese Goulette of Stewartstown; a brother, Sgt. First Class David J. Brooks and his wife Isabella of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Susan Duranleau and husband Michel of Loganville, Ga.; his girlfriend, Valerie Savage of York, Maine; a niece; a nephew; an aunt, uncle and several close relatives in Connecticut; and numerous friends in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts. Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his mother, Doreen M. Brooks, who died on February 26, 2002. Calling hours were held on Saturday, December 20, at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home in Plaistow, and on Sunday at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service was conducted on Monday afternoon at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Colebrook, with Pastor Priscilla Hull officiating. An interment service will be held in the Spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
