LAURENCE HOOK Mr. Laurence Earl Hook Sr., 69, of Brunswick, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in North Stratford. He was born on February 8, 1934 at home on Piper Hill Road in Colebrook, the son of the late Grant and Mildred (Jeffers) Hook. Laurence was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a man who possessed many honorable qualities: integrity, honesty, dedication, devotion and love. He shared his life with all who knew him. He was kind to everyone and always thought of others before his own needs. He was raised on a farm and enjoyed farming and what nature had to offer. Due to health reasons, he left his farm and started a new life in North Stratford, where he was the town road agent for years. During his time as road agent, he enjoyed meeting the people of the town and helping whenever and wherever he was needed. He was well respected for his service to the town and received the Citizen of the Year Award. He also served in the National Guard. Laurence lived a very full life, experiencing many trying times, such as the loss of his home to fire, the loss of his youngest daughter to cancer, and fighting his own battle with farmer's lung. Yet those who knew Laurence could see that his glass was always half full. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking berries, plowing, tinkering, his children, grandchildren and his Model A. He made a life for his family to which, in no way, can anything compare. He loved his wife, and together they gave life to five children. He will forever hold a special place in all their hearts. Laurence is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Platt) Hook of Brunswick; two sons, Robert Hook and his wife Linda of Brunswick, and Laurence Hook Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Martha Kennett and her husband Jerry and Dorothy Meunier and her husband Timothy, all of Brunswick; a brother, Kenneth Hook and his wife June of Brunswick; a sister, Lucille King of Colebrook; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Janet Hook; and his brother, Carroll Hook. Calling hours were held on Friday, December 26 at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Stratford, with The Reverend Daniel Deveau as celebrant. An interment service will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in North Stratford. Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Hook's memory may be made to the Stratford Alumni Association, c/o Corinne Platt, RR1, Box 513, Groveton, NH 03582.
