Bergquist Jr. LANCASTER — Andrew B. Bergquist Jr., 66, died on Sunday morning, August 24, 2003, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Mr. Bergquist was born in North Conway, on July 8, 1937, a son of Andrew and Hazel Betty (Davis) Bergquist. Mr. Bergquist grew up in Marblehead, Mass. and later moved back to New Hampshire. He was graduated from Whitefield High School, Whitefield. He joined the Army and became a member of the 101st Airborne Unit, based in Fort Campbell, Ky. until his honorable discharge. While living in New York State, he obtained a Business Administration degree. He worked over 20 years in the Food Service industry, becoming manager in Connecticut and, later, regional manager in North Carolina. He was very active in civic affairs in Asheville, N.C., particularly in work involving the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club. He was also active in his local church activities and Catholic Cursillo movement. He moved back to New Hampshire in 1984, where he became involved in the forestry industry until his retirement three-and-a-half years ago. He most recently worked with Tri-County Headstart at the Groveton Center, where he dearly loved the children. He was very instrumental in obtaining communication for their transportation system, which will be initiated this fall. Andy was a member of Lancaster’s Rotary Club for a time. He also spent many hours as a volunteer with the Lancaster Main Street Program helping create and install interpretive signs for the Israel River’s Riverwalk. He was particularly interested in the conservation and utilization of natural resources. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, canoeing, and gardening. His love of all things in nature was reflected in his outstanding photography. Family members include his wife of 16 years, Sandra (Schepeler) Bergquist of Lancaster; a daughter Sonya Marie Willard and husband Craig of Midlothian, Va.; a son Eric J. Bergquist and wife Dawn of Hagerstown, Md.; a step-son Roger M. Borlase of Ipswich, Mass.; a step-daughter Heather E. Borlase-Bayer and husband Alan Bayer of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Benjamin, Evelyn Marie, Erica Ann; two brothers Jack M. Bergquist of Dalton, and Richard C. Bergquist and wife Sally of Dunnellon, Fla.; two sisters, Nancy J. Rexford and husband Rodney of Dalton, and Sherry L. Conniff of Piedmont, S. C.; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at All Saints Church, Lancaster. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. LUCIE, Fla. — Rachel H. Chester, 89, died on Monday, August 11, 2003. She was born on June 6, 1914 in Dalton, the daughter of John and Nellie (Smith) Harriman. Mrs. Chester was married to the late Baron Chester of Lyndon, Vt., who died in 1960. She moved to Port St. Lucie 12 years ago from Waltham, Mass. Mrs. Chester was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Waltham and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a den mother for both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Her special interests included traveling and her summer home in New Hampshire. Before retiring at the age of 75, Mrs. Chester was a cryptographer for ITEK, working on Project Corona, a spy satellite program. She is survived by a son, John Chester and wife Adele of Wilbraham, Mass.; a grandson, Baron Chester and wife Frances of Acton, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Audrey and husband Michael Lyons and their children Aryanna and Jack Lyons, all of Key West Fla., and Sonja and husband Aaron Nelson of Chapel Hill, N.C. A graveside service was held on Monday at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham, Mass. Gertrude “Gert” E. Emery WHITEFIELD — Gertrude “Gert” E. Emery, 78, of Whitefield, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster. She was born in Newport, Vt. on June 4, 1925, the daughter of Clarence and Elsie (Vincent) Brown. Mrs. Emery attended schools in Sutton, Burke and Holland, Vt. Gertrude was a great supporter of the Fryeburg Fair and an avid Red Sox fan. She took great delight in watching horse racing and going to the stock car races. She loved her family and will be missed by her many friends. On September 25, 1947, she married Lloyd Emery, who died on May 17, 1989. Survivors include four sons, Irving Emery of Lyndon Center, Vt., Donald Emery and friend Gisele Fletcher of Newport, Vt., Howard and wife Pamela Emery of Newport Center, Vt., and Kenneth and wife Patricia of Colchester, Vt.; a daughter, Erma and husband Jeffrey Young of Dalton; a stepdaughter, Brenda and Robert Burke of Glover, Vt.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Albert and Cecil. Friends were invited to meet the family at the Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville, Vt. on Saturday. Gravesides services were held at Lyndon Center Cemetery on Saturday, with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Knudson, 40, died on August 24, 2003 in East Concord, Vt. Mr. Knudson was born in Lancaster, N.H. on May 7, 1963, a son of Charles K. and Clarice J. (McKeage) Knudson. Steven was a lifetime resident of Gilman where he attended Gilman Elementary and Concord High School. He was presently employed at H.G. Woods, Bath, N.H., where he had worked for many years. He was also employed for a time at Hitchiner Manufacturing, Littleton, N.H., and New England Electric Wire, Lisbon, N.H. He had many interests and was a jack-of-all-trades. These included repairing and rebuilding automobiles and carpentry work that he did at home. He also enjoyed riding the local back roads and his camp in Concord. His greatest pleasure came in spending time with and taking care of his children. Family members include his son, Craig Knudson of Gilman; a daughter, Krystal Knudson of Gilman; his father, Charles K. Knudson of Gilman; three brothers, Charles G. Knudson of Lunenburg, Rodney R. Knudson of East Concord, Paul S. Gilman of Whitefield, N.H.; one aunt; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and two brothers, Randy L. Kundson and Dean Gilman. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening August 24, from 7-9 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, N.H. A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 at the Dalton Congregational Church. The Rev. Thomas Golden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, South Lunenburg. Carl A. Streeter LUNENBURG, Vt. — Carl A. Streeter, 69, of West Side Drive, died at his home on Thursday August 21, 2003. He was born in East Concord, Vermont on August 15, 1934, a son of Harry and Lilla (Smith) Streeter. Carl was raised in East Concord and was a 1952 graduate of Concord High School. On October 6, 1956 he married Carol Ramsdell. For a time he served with the Air Force and in 1965 they moved to Connecticut where they resided for 38 years. For 25 of those years he was employed as a machinist with Package Machinery in East Longmeadow, Mass. Carl enjoyed bluegrass music and played both guitar and banjo. He also had an interest in antique cars. Family members include his wife Carol R. Streeter of Lunenburg; five children, Cynthia Aitcheson of Enfield, Conn., Robert Streeter of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Kathryn Mattingly of Tarrifville, Conn., Rebecca Green of Enfield, Conn., Doreen Kibbe of Enfield, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie Streeter of Lunenburg, Vt. and Prescott Streeter of Merrimack; two sisters Nila Berry of E. Concord, Vt., Marion Spriggs of Merrimack; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Glenn Streeter, Bernard Streeter, and Clifford Streeter. There were no visiting hours. A memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon August 24, at the Lunenburg Congregational Church. The Rev. Gerry Piper of Gilman officiated. Committal services with military honors followed in the Overlook Cemetery in E. Concord. A memorial service will be held in Connecticut.
