Roland Walter Baird BECKLEY, W.V. — Roland Walter Baird, 79, died on September 5, 2003 in Beckley, W.V., where he was an active member of the Beckley Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was born on January 15, 1924 in Newport, Vt. Roland graduated from the Lyndon Institute in 1942 and had just recently attended his 60th high school reunion. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and attended Lyndon State College fro two years. He married Ruberta E. Goodwin. Before retiring on March 1, 1992 from his own business, Roland had previously worked at US Motors in Milford, Conn. as an electrical motor inspector from 1956-1966, and then at Stinehour Press in Lunenburg, Vt. as a pressman for many years. He was a longtime resident of Lunenburg and a member of the Lancaster, N.H. congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Near and dear to Roland were his wife and four sons with their families. He was greatly loved in return. He so enjoyed getting together with his entire family at many reunions. Roland loved to fish and play guitar with his close friend Bill Tower, and in the band in his earlier years. He enjoyed the company of everyone who crossed his path and had a kind word for all. Some of the last words he said to his wife were, “I’ve had a good life” and not to cry too much for him. Roland was pre-deceased by his father, Walter Hoyle Baird; his mother, Ellen Melissa Magoon Baird; three sisters, Ruth Southhouse, Rena Baird, Mildred Baird; and one granddaughter, Nicole Ray Baird. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruberta E. Goodwin Baird of Beckley; four sons and their wives, John and Debbie Baird of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Steven and Mary Baird of Beckley, Brian and Arlene Baird of Tucson, Ariz., Kevin and Marilyn Baird of Bethlehem, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marion Wallace of Lyndonville, Vt., Gladys Aldrich of Dallas, Tex., Catherine Simpson of Red Village, Vt., and Eunice Bishop of Wilder, Vt.; one brother, Richard Baird of Red Village, Vt.; several nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces. A memorial service was held in Beckley at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday, September 13, 2003 for his friends there. A memorial service in Lyndonville, Vt. will be held on October 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. for his family and friends at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located on the corner of Route 5 and South Wheelock Road. Cynthia Lynn Carlson SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Cynthia Lynn Carlson, 51, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 14, 2003, from complications following a short illness. Cindy was born in Berkeley, Calif., on January 27, 1952, the daughter of Evelyn and Robert Carlson. She was graduated from El Dorado High School, Placerville, Calif., and received an Associate’s degree from American River College, Placerville. A resident of Lancaster from 1986-1996, she worked at Weeks Memorial Hospital and later at BMSI Software of Franconia. Upon returning to California, Cindy worked for California Public Radio. An avid reader and devoted mother, Cindy will be remembered for her caring heart and wonderful laugh. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lewis (formerly from Lunenburg, Vt.), a son, Davin Kuntze of London, England and Whitefield, N.H., and her mother, Evelyn of Sacramento, Calif. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Christopher. There are no calling hours. After cremation burial will be at the convenience of the family. John Chenosh Jr. LANCASTER — John Chenosh Jr., 81, of Lancaster died on Friday, September 12, 2003. He was born in Bridgeport on September 12, 1922, the son of John and Mary (Sofnanko) Chenosh and was a resident of Connecticut before moving to Gorham. Mr. Chenosh was employed in the maintenance department at Remington Arms before his retirement. He is survived by many friends. Funeral services were held on Monday in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home in Derby, Conn., with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450. Wallace Robert Mullins MILAN — Wallace Robert Mullins, 88, formerly of Milan, died on Sunday evening, September 14, 2003 at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born in Milan on June 11, 1915, the son of William A. and Jessie (Lang) Mullins and was a lifelong resident of the area. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Mullins was employed by the New Hampshire Highway Department as a truck driver and had worked for Paris Manufacturing for many years. He was a member of Winthrop Grange in Shelburne and had received his 50-year certificate in 2000. He held several offices within the Grange and was a member of the Pomona Grange and a former member of the IOOF in Milan. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was always very interested in his family. Mr. Mullins attended the West Milan United Methodist Church. Members of the family include a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mona) Douglass of Errol; seven grandchildren, William Douglass, Andrew Douglass, Steven Douglass, Brian Douglass, Jesse E. Eames, Ethan Eames and Elizabeth M. (Eames) Host; 11 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Fannie E. (Hayes) Mullins, a daughter Ella M. Eames, a grandson David A. Douglass, and two brothers, William Mullins and Henry Potter. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon (today), September 17, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 2-3 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Anyone who wishes may make a donation in Mr. Mullins’ memory to the Milan Public Library in Milan. Fredrica Hope Flynn Raynes EXETER — Fredrica Hope (Moore) Flynn Raynes, 91, of Exeter died on September 2, 2003 at the Exeter Healthcare Center after a long illness. She was born in Littleton on April 18, 1912, a daughter of Fredrick and Bessie (Cummings) Moore. Educated in the Littleton school system, she was an avid piano player and drama student. She graduated from Keene Normal School in 1934. Hope was predeceased by Dr. Timothy Peter Flynn in 1947. They had four daughters, Patricia Pelletier of Georgetown, Mass., Maureen LaCasse of Old Lyme, Conn., Sharon Turmelle of Weare, and Fredrica Griffin of Raymond. After serving in the Army during World War II, Dr. Flynn had established his medical practice in Lancaster where Hope and the girls resided after his death. After a short term in the field of teaching, Hope was employed by the Soil Conservation Service, as executive secretary to the owner of the Mount Washington Hotel, and lastly she was employed by the Federal Government office of the Farmers Home Administration for 27 years. In 1977 she married John C. Raynes of Exeter and added four step-children to her family: John Raynes Jr. of Keene, Katherine Norton of Exeter, Rebecca Hulick of Murphys, Calif., and Joe Raynes of Blue Hills, Me. Hope’s family also includes 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and she is survived by her sisters-in-law Leona Gagnon of Littleton, Blanche Flynn of Daytona, Fla., and her cousin Jewell Fogg of Littleton, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Michael Patrick LaCasse of Old Lyme, Conn., her sister-in-law Loretta Quail of Littleton, and her brother-in-law John Flynn of Littleton. Burial services will be held on September 27 at 1 p.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter is handling the arrangements. Ruth M. Sias MILAN — Ruth M. Sias, 88, of Milan Hill Road, died on September 10, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Home in Berlin. She was born in West Milan on March 11, 1915, the daughter of James and Anne (Barden) Mimnaugh and grew up in Waltham, Mass. Mrs. Sias had resided in Milan since returning there in 1949. She was a member of St. Kieran Church, now known as Good Shepherd Parish, had served on the R.S.V.P. advisory council for many years, was a former 4-H leader and was employed as town clerk/tax collector for the town of Milan for more than 10 years. She was the widow of Wendell O. “Sam” Sias who died in 1978. She was fond of her K-9 companion, Ginger. Family members include two daughters, Eileen Theriault of Milan and Kim Sias-Lombardi of Berlin; a son, Paul Sias of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held on Friday in the chapel of the Bryant Funeral Home, with Sister Monique Therriault officiating. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan.
