Bruce LANCASTER — Richard R. Bruce, 85, of Chelle Road, died at his home on Thursday September 11, 2003. Mr. Bruce was born in Greenfield, Mass., on June 7, 1918, the son of Chester and Emily (Redman) Bruce. He was raised in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School. He graduated from Vesper George School of Art, Boston, Mass., and served in the Army on homeland coastal patrol during WWII. Richard made his career in advertising as partner in the Channing Bete Advertising Agency of Greenfield, Mass. When the Bete interest went into another branch of publishing he ran his own agency known as Richard R. Bruce Inc. Retiring in the early ‘70s he moved to the North Country and resided at various times in Jefferson, the Clarksville and Pittsburg, area, Lunenburg, Vt., Lancaster, and Bethlehem. On September 13, 1980 he married Eleanor Ball of Deerfield, Mass. She predeceased him on July of 2002. Family members include a son Robert D. Bruce of Falmouth, Maine; a daughter Valerie B. Carlson of Boxboro, Mass.; a sister Beverly Mauri of Greenfield, Mass.; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There are no visiting hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Mary Angel Cassidy WEST STEWARTSTOWN — Mary Angel (Cote) Cassidy, 83, formerly of Groveton, died on Saturday morning, September 20, 2003, at Coös County Nursing Home in West Stewartstown. She was born in Groveton, the daughter of Jerome and Emerline (Laliberty) Cote. Mrs. Cassidy was predeceased by her husband Arthur B. Cassidy. She was a housewife and enjoyed her home and her family. She was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church of Groveton. Mrs. Cassidy is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Driscoll of Lancaster, Lorna Cassidy of Nashua and Marilyn Parent of Nashua; four grandchildren; a cousin, Daryal Gagnon, whom she raised; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, at Main-Armstrong Funeral Home, Groveton, with Father Daniel Deveau officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Groveton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Cassidy’s name to a charity of one’s choice. Dubreuil WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Richard H. Dubreuil 51, formerly of Laconia, N.H., died suddenly at his home in West Palm Beach, on Thursday night September 18, 2003. Mr. Dubreuil was born on June 4,1952 at the Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, N.H., the son of Robert H. and Marie L. (Pelkey) Dubreuil formerly of Lancaster, N.H. Mr. Dubreuil was raised in Lancaster, and later Chelmsford, Mass., where he resided for many years. He also resided for a time Townsend, Mass., where he served on the board selectman, and Laconia, N.H. with his wife Carole and son Jason. They had just moved to Florida to start their dream life. Richard was a life long sales executive. He was educated in the Chelmsford Public School System and also attended Lowell and Laconia Technical Schools. He loved boating and was a computer buff. Surviving family members include his wife Carole (Broulette) Dubreuil of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, James Silva and his wife Stacy of Concord, N.H., and Jason Dubreuil of West Palm Beach; a daughter, Shannon Rogers of West Virginia; his father and mother of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Robert S. Dubreuil and his wife Terry; two granddaughters, Ashley and Mackenzie; nephew and niece Nicholas and Krystal; uncles and aunts, including Rene and Jean Dubreuil of Lancaster, Ralph and Barbara Kingsley of Lancaster, and Babe and Cecil Dutremble of Biddeford, Me. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday afternoon and evening September 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning (today) at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, Lancaster. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster. Richard Madison Hughes LUDLOW, Vt. — Richard Madison Hughes, 89, of Ludlow, Vt., died on Friday, September 19, 2003 at The Gill Oddfellow Nursing Home in Ludlow. Mr. Hughes was born on December 17, 1913 in Colebrook, a son of Thomas and Marion Hughes. He was the proprietor of the Royal IGA grocery store and, after retiring, worked for the State of New Hampshire at the local rest area. Mr. Hughes is survived by his daughter, Nancy Field and husband Bill of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a son, Howard Hughes and wife Barbara of Gray, Me.; a daughter-in-law, Jeannine Hughes of Springfield, Vt.; three sisters, Marguerite Wiswell, Virginia Lay and Kathleen Keazer, all of Colebrook; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Alls Hughes; a son, Dr. Philip Hughes of Springfield, Vt.; eight brothers and one sister. Calling hours were held on Sunday at the Jenkins Funeral Home. A funeral service was conducted on Monday at the Monadnock Congregational Church with the Rev. Oliver Northcott officiating. A Masonic service followed by the Evening Star Lodge #47, F&AM. Jarvie Sr., 83, of the McKee Inn, died on Wednesday evening September 17, 2003 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Mr. Jarvie was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on December 25, 1919, the son of George and Anna (Mayor) Jarvie. Raised in Pittsfield, he was graduated from Pittsfield High School and Rensselaer Polytech Institute in Troy, N.Y. Most of his working life was devoted to the field of metallurgy. As a metallurgical engineer he was first employed for Alcoa in Alcoa, Tenn. for three years. He went on to work 16 years for General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. and 10 years at Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass. His devotion to this field included development and techniques that were invaluable to the space program. Mr. Jarvie also enjoyed oil painting, genealogy, and building miniature Shaker furniture. On September 5, 1942 he married Ruth-Marie Cullen. After retiring from his profession, he and Ruth-Marie owned and operated the Skyview Campsites in Washington, Mass. for 16 years. Upon retirement there they began their own life of travel camping extensively around the United States for nine years. During the temperate months of those years they camped on a parcel of land they owned by the river in Dalton. For the past 12 years they have resided at the McKee Inn. Family members include his wife Ruth-Marie of Lancaster; two sons, Alexander G. Jarvie Jr. of Ellsworth, Me., and Robert G. Jarvie Sr. and his wife Mary of Washington, Mass.; a sister, Shirley Esthus of Farmington, Conn.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning September 27, at 11 a.m. at the Dalton Congregational Church. The Rev. Thomas Golden, pastor, will officiate. The family has requested the omission of flowers. Isham, 73, of Prospect Street, died at her home on Thursday morning, September 18, 2003. Mrs. Isham was born in East Concord, Vt., on March 13, 1930, a daughter ofSherman and Crissie (Perkins) Crawford. She was raised in East Concord where she attended schools and resided most of her lifetime. For many years she had worked for Gilman Paper Company and 11 years for Sweetwood Handle, Littleton, where she retired at 68 years of age. She was also employed for a time at the Mountain View House. She had resided in Whitefield for the past 17 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, East Concord, and the VFW Auxiliary in Lancaster. Family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Melody Isham-Pilotte and Donald Pilotte of Whitefield; a granddaughter, Christina Stiles; three nieces; and several cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Dan Hartshorn; two brothers, Carrol Crawford, Sherman Crawford Jr.; a sister, Lois Stevens; and a very dear friend, Virginia Nichols. Visiting hours were held Friday evening September 19, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service was held on Saturday afternoon at 2 at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Bentum, pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, officiated. Burial followed in the Overlook Cemetery, East Concord. Delwood Smith WHITEFIELD — Delwood "Smitty" Smith, 72 of Jefferson Road, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2003 suddenly in Vermont, while en route to his wintering destination. He was born to Eugene and Mildred (Riley) Smith, on March 9, 1931 in Proctor, Vermont. Smitty served in the Marines and Army with the 7th Cavalry of the 16th ReCon Division during the Korean Conflict. He spent some time employed on the Alaskan Pipeline, prior to moving to Littleton where he was employed as a master plumber for over 20 years. He was the owner/operator of two gas station convenience store operations, one in Jefferson and one in Littleton. He was a lifetime member of the Littleton VFW, Howard Shawney Post #816. Smitty enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his dog Yuma. He also enjoyed swimming, skiing, traveling around the world. He had a great motivation and desire to create and design new building projects. Surviving family members include his wife, Shirley (Butler) Smith of Whitefield; two daughters, Barbara Davis of Grants Pass, Ore. and Della Lynde of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Tracy Davis and Jason Davis of Whitefield, Ryan and Brandon Lynde of Lebanon. At the request of the family there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held in the St. Rose Cemetery in Littleton on Friday, September 26, at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
