Annette Lea Dumont, clerked at Hill's COLEBROOK — Annette Lea Dumont, 92, died on Oct. 27, 2003 at Coös County Nursing Home in West Stewartstown. She was born on November 6, 1910 in Bloomfield, Vt., the daughter of Evangelist and Olivine (Bergeron) Carrier. Mrs. Dumont attended school in North Stratford and lived in Bloomfield, Vt., Lancaster and North Stratford. She settled in Colebrook in 1948. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mrs. Dumont worked as a retail clerk for Hill’s Department Store. She was a communicant of St. Brendan Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. Mrs. Dumont was well known for her kind heart, strong spirit and devotion to family and friends. She enjoyed helping others and often knitted special gifts for relatives, friends, and those in need. Family members include three sons, Laurent Dumont of Bath, Ontario, Richard Dumont of Southampton, Mass., and Denis Dumont of Hillsborough; a daughter, Jeannine Hughes of Springfield, Vt.; a brother, Armand Carrier of Colebrook; two sisters, Dorothy Rancourt of West Stewartstown, and Lena Connary of North Stratford; 13 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. Her husband of 42 years, Albert Dumont, died previously. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 29 (today) from 4-8 p.m. at Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 at St. Brendan Church in Colebrook, with the Rev. Albert Bellefueille officiating. Willoughby Hancock; Teacher, librarian LANCASTER — Beth M. Willoughby Hancock, 95, of Winter Street, died on Friday October 24, 2003, at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. Mrs. Hancock was born in Berlin on December 31, 1907, the daughter of Irving and Mabel (Matson) Willoughby. She was a graduate of Lancaster Academy and Plymouth Normal School. Her career was spent as a devoted teacher and librarian. She taught at schools in Colebrook, North Conway, and Henniker. She was best known for her years as Lancaster Academy's librarian. She was historically minded and a devoted Democrat. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Lancaster Historical Society. Family members include her nephew Richard J. Willoughby of Bradford. Her husband, C. Wayne Hancock, died previously. Visiting hours were held on Sunday October 26, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service was held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Rose, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial followed in the Summer Street Cemetery. Clark Roswell Hartford; Wood carver, Mason CONCORD — Clark Roswell Hartford, 96, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at Concord Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, the son of Harvey and Isabel (Savage) Hartford. He was a 1926 graduate of Lancaster Academy and a 1932 graduate of Bentley College. He worked for the State of New Hampshire for 37 years, retiring as secretary of the N.H. State Teachers Retirement System. He was a long-time member and former deacon of South Congregational Church in Concord. He was a member of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and was a member of Bektash Temple Shrine. Mr. Hartford was an active member of the N.H. State Employees Association and a past president of the Bentley Alumni Association. He was also a member of the Granite State Wood Carvers. Mr. Hartford’s family members include his wife, Lucy (Marshall) Hartford of Pembroke; one son, Robert Hartford of Penacook; two daughters, Jane Winslow of Penacook and Nancy Green of Concord; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. His son, Richard Hartford, died previously. Memorial calling hours were held from on Sunday, October 26, at the Bennett Funeral Home, Concord. A Masonic service preceded the calling hours. Crystal King; Music lover, friend LANCASTER — Crystal King, 15, of Summer Street, died at her home on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2003. Crystal was born in Lancaster on December 8, 1987, the daughter of Patrick R. and Annette L. (Bergin) King. She was a sophomore at White Mountain Regional High School, Whitefield. Her many interests included shopping, music, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and spending time with her friends. She also enjoyed playing with her nephew and taking care of her cat "Peep." Family members include her parents of Lancaster; three brothers, Patrick A. King, Adam J. King, and Tyler S. King, all of Lancaster; paternal grandparents, Armand King Sr. of Lancaster, and Lucielle King of Colebrook; maternal grandparents, Andrew Bergin of Guildhall, Vt., and Claudette Bergin of Whitefield; one nephew; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Gennette Peabody; Rebekah, held Degree of Chivalry DUMMER — Gennette (Hapgood) Peabody, 91, of 38 Estates Road in Dummer, formerly of Milan, died on Monday, October 27, 2003 at home. She was born in Canada on November 27, 1911, the daughter of Elwin and Grace (McMann) Hapgood, and lived in the Milan area most of her life. Mrs. Peabody was a member of the Milan Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Emily Flint Rebekah Lodge, and in 1998 was awarded the Degree of Chivalry in the Rebekah Lodge. She was a former Sunday school teacher, a volunteer in the Milan school system, one of the original members of the Milan PTA, a former member of the Milan Grange and a member of the Railroad Ladies Auxiliary. Members of the family include one daughter, Elizabeth Hawkins of Dummer; two grandsons, Dana Hart of Berlin and Daryl Hart of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Dawn Dube of Milan; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Weldon Peabody Sr., died previously as well as her son, Weldon Peabody Jr., and her grandson, Douglas Hart. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 29 (today) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30 at 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan. Maureen A. Sewick; Former selectman, avid knitter RANDOLPH — Mrs. Maureen A. (Smith) Sewick of Randolph, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at her home after battling lung cancer for over one-and-a-half years. She was born on May 12, 1933, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Richard J. and Mary (Miller) Smith. She was graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1951 and Albertus Magnus College in 1955. She was a librarian for the city of New Haven for many years before getting married and raising her family in Milford, Conn. She was also a fourth grade teacher at Sacred Heart School in New Haven. After moving to New Hampshire in 1976, Maureen became an avid knitter (often using wool from sheep that she and her husband raised) with the weekly knitting group at the Grandview Lodge in Randolph. Maureen retired from her duties as a selectman in Randolph in 2002, after serving for nine years. She was also an executive board member of the NHMA. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Jefferson. Family members include her husband of 44 years, Michael F. Sewick (Buddy Laur) of Randolph; one daughter, Anne Kenison and husband David of Randolph; two sons, Michael Jr. and Denise Haley of West Haven, Conn. and Matthew Sewick of North Pole, Ak.; grandchildren, Jamie and Rachel Jenison of Randolph, Kyle, Marissa and Kasey Sewick of West Haven, Conn., as well as Jennifer Parker of Berlin and Jeffrey and Sara Parker of Randolph; two brothers, Richard J. Smith Jr. of East Haven, Conn. and Kevin D. Smith of North Haven, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. Her parents, a sister Kate, and a brother, Robert, died previously. Stanley Titus Stoddard; Had John Deere dealership TAMPA, Fla. — Stanley Titus Stoddard, 84, formerly of North Haverhill, died on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Fla. Born on May 25, 1919 in Columbia, he was the son of Carroll Titus and Ella Louise (Frizzell) Stoddard. He was a graduate of Colebrook High School and the University of New Hampshire. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was the retired owner of a New Hampshire John Deere dealership, past president of the New England Equipment Dealers Association, a past member of the Lions Club International, Elks Lodge 1831, and past vice president of the North Haverhill Fair Association. Family members include his wife of 20 years Shirley (Bekkenhuis) Stoddard of Indian Lakes Estates, Fla.; a son John Doud Stoddard of North Haverhill; a stepson John R. Pietras of Indian Lakes Estates, Fla.; a stepdaughter Melissa J. Knight of Brandon, Fla.; a brother, Gerald Allen Stoddard of North Haverhill; a sister, Eloise Nickerson Wallateen of Alton Bay; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Stoddard’s first wife of 37 years, Doris (Doud) Stoddard, his son Stanley T. Stoddard Jr. and his brother Frederick Stoddard died previously. Burial will be at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
