Merlyn Baker LANCASTER — Merlyn Baker, 69, of North Road, died at his home on Tuesday afternoon November 4, 2003. Mr. Baker was born in Whitefield on August 21, 1934, a son of Sidney Anson and Viola Jennette (Sisco) Baker. He was a 1953 graduate of Lancaster Academy and served two years in the Army. He was employed for many years as a general foreman for Western Union Telegraph Company, New York, N.Y. The territory he covered stretched from Maine to Georgia. He married Jane Gray on February 15, 1964, and together they moved 19 times during his career. He retired in 1986 returning to Lancaster permanently. After retirement he spent much of his time working with and building computers. He had a vast knowledge of computers and taught classes and provided consultation. He also enjoyed fishing. Merlyn was a member of the Jefferson Fire Department and former member of the Lancaster Fire Department. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3041 of Lancaster. Family members include his wife of Lancaster; two sons, Shawn P. Caron of Lancaster, and Gregory H. Caron of Chicago; three brothers, Carl Baker of Whitefield, James Baker of Pennsylvania, and his twin brother, Mervyn Baker of Florida; four sisters, Helen Dexter of Connecticut, Gail Kelley of Alabama, and Sylvia Corbett of Maine, Judy Demers of Hooksett; five grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, Joshua, Adam, Cody; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A sister, Marjorie Hutchinson; and brothers, Russell, Robert, Roger, and Harold died previously. Visiting hours were held on Friday, Nov. 7, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service was held on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Summer Street Cemetery. Rev. Curtis W. Smith, pastor, of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, officiated. Donations may be made in Mr. Baker’s memory to the Jefferson Fireman’s Association, PO Box 173, Jefferson, NH 03583 or to a charity of one’s choice. Collin B. Binette BIDDEFORD, Me. — Collin B. Binette, 48, of Granite Street, died on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Southern Maine Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Biddeford on April 10, 1955, the son of Bruno and Clairette Pruneau Binette, and was educated in Biddeford schools, graduating from Biddeford High School with the class of 1973. On March 8, 2003 he married Elaine Hall at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Mr. Binette worked for over 25 years at the Journal Tribune. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, a former member of the Eagles Club and the United States Trotting Association. He enjoyed attending concerts and was an avid sports and horse racing fan. Since 1984, he was actively involved in harness racing as an owner. He was known affectionately by his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Buck." The family includes his wife, Elaine (Hall) Binette of Biddeford, Me.; his mother, Clairette Binette of Kittery, Me.; a sister, Mrs. Leo (Brenda) Parenteau of Saco, Me.; a stepson, Jeremy Hall of Twin Mountain; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford, Me., with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Edward "Eddie" Ervin Connary NORTH STRATFORD — Edward "Eddie" Ervin Connary, 86, died on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at his North Stratford residence, with his wife and family by his side. He was born on July 27, 1917 in North Stratford, the son of Edward Joseph and Hazel (Mason) Connary. Mr. Connary attended Stratford schools and was a 1935 graduate of Stratford High School. He married Lena Carrier on August 9, 1943. The couple resided in Bloomfield, Vt. for several years before moving to North Stratford in 1953. He worked as a farmer and later as a plumber for several North Country businesses. Additionally, he worked as a car salesman for Crest Auto in Colebrook, B&J Auto in Berlin, and Hayes Ford in Newport, Vt. Mr. Connary was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, sugaring and ATVing. He also enjoyed working with his hands, creating clocks and lamps. He will be remembered as a true family man who enjoyed raising his six children. The family includes his wife of 60 years, Lena Connary of North Stratford; three sons, E. Harlan Connary and Ronald B. Connary of North Stratford and Ervin T. Connary of Groveton; three daughters, Jayne Leigh and Mary Lepine of Groveton and Susan Connary of North Stratford; a sister, Delia Cushing of Bethlehem; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A sister, Barbara Crawford, died previously. Calling hours were private. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Sacred Heart Church in North Stratford. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in North Stratford. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sacred Heart Church in North Stratford, NH 03590. Newman Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Gale E. Dorsey SWANSEA, Mass. — Gale E. (Bell) Dorsey, 64, of Highland Road, Swansea, Mass., died on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of Robert J. and Doris (Clifton) Bell. Mrs. Dorsey was a housewife, the wife of Carl E. Dorsey. She was a Swansea resident most of her life, but had lived in Twin Mountain for 20 years and was secretary/bookkeeper for the Twin Mountain Motel, which she owned with her husband. She enjoyed playing bingo and doing crafts. The family includes her husband, Carl Dorsey of Swansea, Mass.; dear friends, Kevin and Amy Leonard of Greenland and their children, Meghan and Kurtis; a brother, William Gratten of Derida, La.; several cousins; an aunt, Peggy Crowther of Waliston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 (today) in St. Dominic Church, 127 G.A.R. Highway, Route 6, Swansea, Mass. Burial will be in Rehoboth Village Cemetery. Hennessey Jr., 56, of 971 Whitefield Road, Dalton, died on Nov. 11, 2003, at his home following an extended illness. Herb was born in Whitefield on Oct. 25, 1947 and was the son of Herbert A. Hennessey Sr. and Elinor (Burke) Hennessey. Herb was graduated from Whitefield High School in 1965 and from Champlain College in Burlington, Vt., in 1967. Herb married Joanne Grimard on August 15, 1970. His family includes his wife, Joanne; his son, Derek Hennessey of Newton, Mass.; and his daughter, Beth (Hennessey) Reynolds and her husband Robert Reynolds of Framingham, Mass. Other survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Maryclare (Hennessey) and Edward Quigley of Whitefield, and Anne (Hennessey) and David Jones of Marlborough, Conn., and Alan Astle of Dalton; his mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Grimard of Dalton, and Cape Coral, Fla.; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean (Grimard) and Robert Bergin of Whitefield, and a niece, eight nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His parents and his sister Susan (Hennessey) Astle died previously. Herb was co-owner and manager of Kilkenny Building Center in Lancaster for nearly 20 years. He was a charter member of the Whitefield Lions Club, and he was a past president, and active member, of the Whitefield Alumni Association, and a member of the American Legion Post 41 in Whitefield. Herb served in the Army from 1967 to 1969 where he was stationed in Germany. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368. James C. "Bill" Keazer Jr. COLEBROOK — James C. "Bill" Keazer Jr., 89, died on November 6, 2003 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. He was born on August 14, 1914 in East Colebrook on the family farm, the son of James "Carmi" and Eva (Cook) Keazer Sr. Mr. Keazer owned, operated and worked on the Keazer family farm until his recent illness. He enjoyed sugaring, hunting and fishing and did guide work in his earlier years. He was the cornerstone of the family and will be remembered for his love of farming and his family. The family includes his loving wife of 62 years, Mary (Peabody) Keazer of Colebrook; two sons, Bradley Keazer of Manchester, Conn., and Robert Keazer of Colebrook; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Annie Smith of Mount Dora, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook, with the Rev. Oliver Northcott officiating. A burial service followed at Colebrook Village Cemetery. Alfred James Magoon BELMONT — Alfred James Magoon, 85, of Shaker Road in Belmont, died on Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the Franklin Regional Hospital. Mr. Magoon was born in Dalton on December 14, 1917, the son of Cecil J. and Edith W. (Ward) Magoon. He was employed most of his lifetime as a woodsman and a mill worker. For a time he lived in Dalton and Northumberland and worked at the Wyoming Valley Paper Company, Northumberland. He had resided in the Laconia area for the past 50 years, also working in local mills and as a woodsman. Family members include nieces and nephews. A brother, Arthur B. Magoon and two sisters, Olive Hobbs and Mildred Wright died previously. There were no visiting hours. A graveside service was held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. The Rev. David Pendleton, pastor of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, officiated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Patricia Ann Olson CLARKSVILLE — Patricia Ann Olson, 64, died on November 6, 2003 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. Born on July 11, 1939 in Three Rivers, Mass., she was the daughter of Walter T. and Anna (Munic) Wilga. Mrs. Olson attended school in Worcester, Mass., graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1957. She married Roy E. Olson on June 25, 1960. After high school, Mrs. Olson attended cosmetology school. The Olsons lived in Worcester until the mid-1980s when they moved to New Boston, Mass. They moved to Clarksville in 2000. Mrs. Olson enjoyed family life, shopping, gardening and reading. The family includes a son, Mark Olson of Auburn, Mass.; two daughters, Debra Morabito of Stewartstown and Mrs. Brian (Teresa) Bissonnette of West Stewartstown; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Walter Wilga of Millbury, Mass. and Ronald Wilga of Worcester, Mass.; and a sister, Joyce Monopoli of West Richland, Wash. Her husband died previously. Calling hours were held on Saturday at the Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook. The funeral was held on Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Albert Bellefeuille officiating. Interment was private. Everett F. Pike GILMAN — Everett F. Pike, 86, of Riverside Ave., died suddenly at his home on Friday, November 7, 2003. Mr. Pike was born in Lunenburg, Vt. on February 23, 1917, the son of Harry W. and Zola (Carbee) Pike. He had worked as a farmer all his life, residing for a time in Lyndon before his many years back in Gilman. He enjoyed spending time with people, always taking time for a visit and waving when folks went by. Mr. Pike also enjoyed fishing, bicycling, and taking care of his pets. He looked after numerous cats. His family includes a sister, Hazel Patinaw of Farmington, Me.; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces. His wife, Cora (McCarty) Pike, died previously. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service was held Monday morning at the funeral home, the Rev. William J. Brown III of Gilman officiating. Burial was held in the Coventry Cemetery. Isabel M. Roy DURHAM — Isabel M. Roy, 94, formerly of 67 Madbury Road, died on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was born on May 29, 1909 in Jefferson, a daughter of Alexander J. and Annie J. (McLaughlin) Rhome. Isabel attended local schools and was graduated from Plymouth State College and the University of New Hampshire. She was a teacher in elementary schools in New Hampshire until her retirement in 1968 due to illness. She was a sponsor of the following: The Friends of the Library of the University of New Hampshire, the Humane Society of the United States, Washington, D.C., the Children’s Home of Dover, the Veterans Administration Hospital, Manchester, and the Historical Society of Jefferson. Isabel was a member of the Church of St. Thomas More, the Alumni Association and the Ben Thompson Club of UNH, The Union of Concerned Scientists, the American Red Cross Association, the New Hampshire Audubon Society, the S.P.C.A., Stratham, and the Gold Star Wives of America. She was also a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association, the Sterling Circle of Plymouth State College and a life member of the Durham Historical Society. Her interests were in science, children, animal societies and the veterans’ hospitals. After the death of her husband Staff Sergeant William D. Roy, who died in France in World War II, she moved to Durham and made her home with her sister, Margaret Kauppinen, who died on Oct. 4 this year. The family includes nieces, nephews and cousins. At her request, there are no calling hours. Graveside committal prayers will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 (today) at St. Mary Cemetery, Dover Point Road, Dover, with the Rev. Daniel St. Laurent, pastor of the Church of St. Thomas More, officiating. A Memorial Mass for Isabel Roy and Margaret Kauppinen will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Church of St. Thomas More, Madbury Road, Durham, with the Rev. Daniel St. Laurent, pastor, as celebrant. Friends are invited to attend. Funeral arrangements are by the Tasker Funeral Home in Dover.
