Brooks DALTON — Virginia M. Brooks, 91, of 552 Whitefield Road, died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster, following a brief illness. She was born in Dalton, a daughter of Jerry and Stella (Crane) Brooks. She was a homemaker, and lifelong resident of this community. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, doing needle point and berry picking during the summer. Family members include a sister, Barbara Brooks of Dalton; and nieces and nephews, George and Pat Brooks of Dalton, and Scoot, Susan and Dalton Brooks of Waxahachie, Tex. Calling hours were held at the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel, on Friday, Dec. 19, from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services immediately followed at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring in the Pine Street Cemetery, Whitefield. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Country Village Residents Council, P.O. (Gray) LaBar, 88 died on Dec. 15, 2003 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital. Mrs. LaBar was born on June 13, 1915, in Columbia, the daughter of Bernie and Leona (Pinckney) Gray. She was a hairdresser for a short period of time before marrying George I. LaBar. She was a homemaker and was active in the George L. O’Neil American Legion Auxiliary Post 62, Eureka Chapter 2, Order of the Eastern Star, the Trinity United Methodist Church and the P.T.A. Family members include two daughters, Nancy Schoff of Plymouth and Susan LaBar Hogrefe of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; a sister, Donna Washburn of Newport; five nieces and two nephews. Her husband died previously. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Jenkins Funeral Home, Colebrook, with a graveside service to follow at Colebrook Village Cemetery.
