Clark NEWTON - Edith P. (Mattson) Clark, 94, of 58 Highland St., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in York Hospital, York, Maine. She was born in Barre, Vt., and was raised in Quincy, Mass. She had resided in Newton for more than 30 years coming from Hull, Mass. She was educated in Quincy schools. Mrs. Clark was a bookkeeper at Quincy High School, a secretary, bookkeeper and office manager at Bradford Plumbing and Heating of Quincy and at American Hyde of Boston and Northern Industries of South Boston. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton and president of the Ladies Aid Society. The widow of John G. Clark, she is survived by five nieces, Christine Klay of Ogunquit, Maine, Nancy Kodan of Point Pleasant, N.J., Pauline Anderson of Braintree, Mass., Margaret Ellen Mattson of Silver Spring, Md., and Eileen Shattuck of Belaire, Md.; one nephew, William Anderson of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and several great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in The First Baptist Church of Newton, Main Street, Newton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Main St., Newton, NH 03858. Veronica E. Kuzminski PLAISTOW - Veronica E. (Yawnitz) Kuzminski, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, Mass. She was born Oct. 22, 1913, in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Woicheck and Eva (Gustora) Yawnitz and had been a resident of Plaistow since 1940. She was a graduate of St. James High School, Haverhill. Mrs. Kuzminski was a fancy stitcher in Haverhill and Lawrence, Mass., shoe factories until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Plaistow. She is survived by four daughters, Carol A. Kuzminski of Sarasota, Fla., Sylvia M. Kuzminski of Hampton, Sandra Buker of Nova Scotia and Catherine Kuzminski of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandchildren; one sister, Catherine R. Rowell of Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in Holy Angels Church, Plaistow. Spring burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. "Louie" Lewis Jr., 69, of 37 True’s Parkway, died Jan. 16, 2003, in Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Fla. He was born in Somerville, Mass., was raised in the Boston area and had resided in Sandown since 1982, coming from Allston, Mass. He wintered in Clearwater, Fla. He attended Brighton (Mass.) High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Lewis was a truck driver for Darcey Transportation of Boston and for Valerie Trucking of Rhode Island. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 25 of Boston and 251 of Rhode Island; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Watertown, Mass., and St. Anne’s Parish of Hampstead. He is survived by his wife, Maria "Mary" (Hynds) Lewis; two sons and their wives, John F. and Linda Lewis of Malden, Mass., and Michael and Michelle Lewis of Plaistow; one daughter and her husband, Kathleen L. and Chad Dresser of Plaistow; eight grandchildren; one brother, John W. Lewis of Clearwater; one sister, Mary Jane Bonner of Hudson, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday in St. Anne’s Church, Hampstead. Spring burial will be in center Cemetery, Sandown. Arrangements were by Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. Joseph N. Shaw PORTSMOUTH - Joseph N. Shaw, 65, of 888 Greenland Road, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was born July 29, 1937, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late Edward C. and Hazel (Wentworth) Shaw. He was a 1955 graduate of Portsmouth High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years of service. Mr. Shaw was formerly employed as a maintenance engineer at Winnacunnet High School, Hampton. He was a member of Greenland Community Congregational Church and an officer and member of the B&M Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Veronica (Popielarz) Shaw; one daughter, Terryann Kelley of Raymond; one son, Mark E. Shaw of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; one sister, Jean Shaw of Dover; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Greenland Community Congregational Church, Greenland. Arrangements were by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth.
