Carter KINGSTON - Earl S. Carter, 76, of Main Street, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home after a sudden illness. He was born March 5, 1926, in Kingston, the son of the late Harry L. and Ida P. (Chellis) Carter and was a lifelong resident of Kingston. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Carter delivered oil for W.S. Clark & Sons, Kingston, for 44 years, and was formerly a road agent in Kingston. He was an active member of the Kingston Fire Department since 1945, serving as a truck engineer, deputy forest fire warden, assistant chief and chief. He was also a member of the Kingston Police Department for many years, serving as police chief from 1963 until 1967. He served as a special deputy sheriff for Rockingham County. He was a member of the Rockingham County Law Enforcement Association; the Kingston Vets Club; the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 1088 in Kingston; and a former member of the N.H. State Marine Patrol. He had a special interest in trains, a love of animals and wildlife and enjoyed working his farm in East Kingston, attending auctions and collecting antiques. He is survived by three sisters, Winnifred Wentworth of Stratham, Doris Light of Exeter and Bertha Bruce of Stratham; one brother, Walter G. Carter Sr. of Kingston; his close friend and companion, Carol Tewksbury of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday in Kingston First Congregational Church, Kingston. Military burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston. Jean Sr. EPPING - Agapit H. Jean Sr., 84, of Acre Street, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in Exeter Hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Epping, one of 14 children of the late Alfred B. and Josephine (Lavoie) Jean. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Jean was employed by Rockingham Shoe Co., Newmarket, for many years. He was a life-long communicant of St. Joseph Church, serving as an usher for many years. Like his father and brothers he worked as the caretaker of the cemetery where he dedicated the flag pole in memory of all who served to protect our freedom. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6850 and a charter member of the Bishop Leo E. O’Neil Assembly of the 4th degree. The widower of Doris L. (Beaulieu) Jean, his wife of 52 years who died in 1998, he is survived by seven daughters, Yvonne Poliquin of Epping, Elizabeth McCusker of Plaistow, Yvette Jean of Gig Harbor, Wash., Marlene Myers of Dover, Darlene Bothwell-Smith of LaCrosse, Va., Donna MacDonald of Dover and Theresa Devine of Raymond; four sons, The Rev. Agapit H. Jean Jr. of Portsmouth, and Michael Jean, Robert Jean and Edward Jean, all of Epping; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome Jean of Epping and Thomas Jean of Rochester; four sisters, Clara Morrisette of Exeter, Mary Faucher of Raymond, Cecile Raiche of Epping and Gemma Jean-King of Epping; one stepsister, Lucille Lavoie of Manchester; one stepbrother, Lucien Lavoie of Nottingham; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Cap. John Jean; one daughter, Elaine Conery; two granddaughters, Casandra Bragg and Dana Bothwell; five brothers, John, Antonio, Joseph, Albert and Alphonse Jean; and two sisters, Lucy Dionne and Antoinette Pare. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Joseph Church, Epping, with the Rev. Aggie Jean as celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, P.O. Box 337, Epping, NH 03042 or to a local Disabled American Veterans organization. Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. Robert L. St. Jean PLAISTOW - A Memorial Mass for Robert L. St. Jean will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4:30 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Plaistow. Mr. St. Jean died Jan. 8, 2003 in Lynn, Mass.
