Edwards RAYMOND - Pauline I. Edwards, 81, of Downing Street, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health. She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel (McLure) Edwards and lived most of her life in Raymond. She was a graduate of Raymond High School. She was a U.S. Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps veteran serving three tours in Germany and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. She retired as a staff sergeant in 1963. Before enlisting in the service in 1943 she had been employed at the Raymond post office for several years. Miss Edwards was employed by Ben Franklin Department Store in Raymond for almost 20 years. She was a member of the Maple Wheadon Post 4479, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Raymond and was the first woman in the state’s history to join a VFW. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved animals. She is survived by one sister, Shirley Hill of Exeter; one brother, Paul Edwards of Raymond; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Military burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.
