Brown AMESBURY, Mass. - Luraina J. Brown, 70, of 24 Heritage Vale, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at her home after a brief illness. She was born June 27, 1932, in Seabrook, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Gladys E. Bickford. She was raised in Seabrook and had resided in Epping for many years. She was educated in Seabrook schools. Mrs. Brown was a nurse’s aide at Rockingham County Nursing Home, The Greenleaf and Companion Care. She enjoyed playing bingo and gambling. The widow of George J. Brown Sr., who died in 1981, she is survived by seven sons, Benjamin D. Brown of Derry, George J. Brown Jr. of Concord, Raymond C. Brown of Epping, Kenneth E. Brown of Salisbury, Mass., Harold T. Brown of Amesbury, Michael J. Brown of Hampton and Richard A. Brown of Raymond; three daughters, Laura L. Roy of Raymond, Lurena Eaton of Barrington and MaryJane Evans of Epping; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Chapman of Epping; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter Bickford and Carl Bickford; and one sister, Mildred Tuttle. Calling hours were held Monday evening. There are no funeral services planned. Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. No. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843. Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Harold Daigle DEERFIELD - Harold Daigle, 84, of Hammond Road, died March 25, 2003, at Epsom Manor after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Fort Kent, Maine, the son of the late Arthur and Egline (Boutote) Daigle. Military graveside services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 12:30 p.m. in Old Center Cemetery, Deerfield, with the Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry St., Concord, NH 03301. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Ralph V. Gould BASS RIVER, Mass. - Ralph Vincent Gould, 92, died April 10, 2003, in Bass River. He was born Jan. 20, 1911, in Walpole, Mass., the son of George and Emma Gould. He left Walpole High School after his sophomore year in 1928 to serve with the U.S. Coast Guard. He attended the sixth class of the FBI National Police Academy in Washington, D.C., in 1937. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Office Candidate School in South Carolina and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served with Merrill’s Marauders and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as Provost Marshall in Burma, India. He joined the Army Reserves at the end of the war and was recalled to active duty in 1969 to serve as deputy director of the New Hampshire Selective Service System Board during the Vietnam War. He retired as a colonel in 1974. Mr. Gould built a service station in North Hampton and was elected Constable of North Hampton in 1936. In 1937 he began a police training school for law enforcement officers in the Seacoast area. He joined the State Police in 1938 and served until 1940, when he became the assistant police chief in North Conway. He served with the Rochester Police Department as the City Marshall until 1942. After the war he returned to North Hampton and was appointed as a motor vehicle inspector in 1946. He was appointed Director of Safety in 1949 and in 1961 was appointed as the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, serving until 1967. Mr. Gould was instrumental in establishing the motor vehicle laws in New Hampshire and helped to establish the motor vehicle title laws to prevent auto theft in the state and helped to establish the seat belt and school bus stopping laws. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Concord. He became a licensed lay preacher and was ordained in 1977 at the First Baptist Church in Hampton. He served as pastor of Wilmot Baptist Church in Wilmot Flat during the 1960s and Grace Bible Church in East Kingston in the 1970s. He was a member of Gideons International. He enjoyed building and did extensive renovations to his homes in Concord, Pembroke and Hampton on Boar’s Head. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Barbara (Reynolds) Gould of Bass River; one son, R. Wayne Gould of Rye; one daughter, Sandra Zaccardi of West Wareham, Mass.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Gould of Pembroke; and two sisters, Barbara Fillmore of Melbourne, Fla., and Virginia Divine of Foxboro, Mass. He was predeceased by his first wife of 62 years, Olive (Ferguson) Gould, who died in 1995. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. in the Methodist Church in Bass River.
