Alberta Simes KINGSTON - L. Alberta Simes, 88, of 2 New Boston Road, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a period of failing health. She was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Newton Junction, the daughter of the late Andrew V. and Abbie Jane (Tucker) Simes. An identical twin, she and her sister, L. Abbie Simes, who died in 2001, lived all their lives together in the family home for more than 80 years and were involved in the same activities and clubs. Miss Simes was a retired stitcher in shoe factories in Newton Junction, Haverhill, Mass., and Exeter. She was active with the Kingston House Community Center where she was a saleslady. She was active with the Kingston Senior Citizens Group and was a former member of the Rebekahs and the Grange. She is survived by two nieces, Joan Bates of The Villages, Fla., and Norma Taatjes of Milton; and one nephew, Bruce Simes of Bradenton, Fla. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston. Amelia Smith NEWMARKET - Amelia "Millie" Smith, 88, formerly of 65 New Road, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at the Mark Wentworth Home, Portsmouth. She was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Newmarket, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Sklarski) Szeliga. She was raised in Newmarket and resided in Exeter for many years coming back to Newmarket in 1975. Mrs. Smith worked at Timberland Shoe Co. of Newmarket and had previously worked at several shoe manufacturing locations in Exeter. The widow of George D. Smith, who died in 1990, she is survived by one sister, Bertha Kustra of Newmarket; one brother, John Szeliga of Newmarket; one son-in-law, Herbert A. Thompson of Barrington; three grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one daughter, Joan Thompson, who died in 1997; two sisters, her twin sister Josephine Maslowski, and Dorothy Szeliga. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket with Pastor Chris Clinch officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket. Clara Currier KENSINGTON - Clara Currier, 80, of 115 South Road, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at her home after a period of failing health. She was born March 31, 1923, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Clara (Normington) Arnold and had resided in Kensington for 37 years, coming from Peabody, Mass. Mrs. Currier was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 105 of Kensington and enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was an avid reader. The widow of Charles O. Currier, she is survived by six sons and two daughters-in-law, Herbert Currier of Kensington, Roger and Cheryl Currier of Raymond, Dennis Currier of Kensington, Steven and Lois Currier of Princeton, Kan., Edward Currier of Raymond and David Currier of Manchester; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Marlene and Ken Lowery of Saco, Maine, Jane and Walter Hichens Jr. of Berwick, Maine, Ruth Pouliot of East Rochester, Laurel A. Currier of Kensington, and Debra and Benn Vennesland of Lancaster, Pa.; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Arnold of Peabody, Mass.; one aunt, Laura Archibald of Beverly, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Charles O. Currier. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating.
