Ann Curtis NEWTON - Ann (Smith) Curtis, 59, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, in Exeter Hospital. She was born Nov. 12, 1943, in Boston, the daughter of the late Ralph and Verna (Scanlan) Smith. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School, attended Salem State Teachers College and received her nursing degree in 1971. Mrs. Curtis was a registered nurse for 30 years. She is survived by her husband, William Curtis of Newton; one daughter, JoAnne Johnson of Florida; two brothers, Ralph Smith of Tennessee and David Smith of Utah; one sister, Dorothy Hogan of New Hampshire; and one aunt, Phyllis Scanlan of Massachusetts. Graveside services were held Wednesday in North Branch Cemetery, Antrim. Lester F. Houston HAMPSTEAD - Lester F. Houston, 89, of Main Street, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Integrated Health Services of Derry. He was born June 27, 1924, in Hampstead, the son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Hart) Houston and was a lifelong resident of Hampstead. He was a 1933 graduate of Hampstead High School. Mr. Houston was a tool and die maker for Western Electric, now AT&T, in North Andover, Mass. He enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Casazza) Houston of Hampstead; one son and his wife, Robert and Ruth Ann Houston of Hampstead; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandsons. She was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Chester, the daughter of the late John and Maude (Parker) Duston and had resided in Plaistow before moving to Kingston 68 years ago. She was a graduate of Haverhill (Mass.) High School and attended the University of New Hampshire. Mrs. Moore was the former owner of Yours Truly Beauty Shop in Kingston and the co-owner of Moore’s Hardware Store in Kingston. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Kingston and was active with many civic organizations in Kingston. She is survived by two sons and their wives, David and Mary Conant of Beverly Hills, Fla., and John and Donna Conant of Salem; two daughters and their husbands, Judith and Michael Gorski of Fairfax, Va., and Sandra and Kenneth Herrick of Brentwood; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Jenne of Plaistow; several nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Edward Foy of Newton. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gardner H. Conant, and her second husband, Alfred L. Moore. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, Kingston. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Frederick G. Tenney FRANKLIN, N.C. - Frederick Gage Tenney, 80, died August 10, 2003, in Franklin after a brief illness. He was born March 24, 1923, in Concord. He was raised in Bow and lived most of his life in Fremont and Epping moving to North Carolina three years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Tenney worked at Exeter Manufacturing Co. for many years. The widower of Jessie (Gates) Tenney, he is survived by one sister, Annie Wiggin of Epping; three nephews, Rick Tenney of Arizona and Austin and Robert Wiggin of Raymond; four nieces, Helen Bickford and Dorothy Semprini, both of Epping, Betty Porter of Exeter and Rachel Gould of Maine; two cousins, Iona Wells of New York and Virginia Toucette of Allenstown; and several great and great-grand nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at a later date to be announced by the family.
