Elliott NOTTINGHAM - Charles Henry Elliott, 78, of Smoke Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 30, 1925, in Hampstead, the son of the late Kelley and Susie (Sargent) Elliott Sr. He was raised in Hampstead and had resided in Nottingham for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Elliott was a lumber cutter and roller for George Green in Barrington. He had previously worked for Ivan Fogerty in Lee and for the agricultural farm at the University of New Hampshire. He enjoyed fishing, picking blueberries and cleaning copper. He is survived by two sons, Charles H. Elliott Jr. of Raymond and Raymond Elliott of Nottingham; three daughters, Katherine Eaton of Nottingham, Doris Paradise of Gonic and Sarah J. Elliott of Nottingham; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Elliott and Arthur Elliott and Clayton Elliott, both of Rochester; two sisters, Viola Clark and Helen Wallingford, both of Barrington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Everett A. Elliott, two brothers and one sister. Graveside services will be held Friday at noon in Lee Hill Cemetery, Lee. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Paul W. Hanson BARRINGTON - Paul William Hanson, 72, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in Epsom Manor, Epsom, after a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1931, in Concord, the son of Ernest W. and Lorrie L. (Jarrest) Hanson. He was raised in Concord, and was a 1950 graduate of Concord High School, where he played football, and received his bachelor of science degree and his master’s degree in education the University of New Hampshire. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Bushnell stationed in Norfolk, Va., and Key West, Fla. Mr. Hanson began his teaching career as teacher/principal in Epsom, serving as principal in Brentwood. He was the principal of Memorial School in Newton for 26 years. Known for his tough yet compassionate style, he earned the respect of colleagues, teachers, parents and students. . He retired in 1990 and resides on Mica Point Island, Swains Lake, Barrington and wintered in Brooksville, Fla. Memorial School created the Paul Hanson Science Award in his honor He was also a coach umpire and game official for baseball and football. He was the owner of thoroughbred racehorses and spent many moments in the winner’s circle. His horses raced at Rockingham Park, Suffolk Downs, Saratoga and tracks in Florida. He was a member of Nippo Lake Country Club, Barrington, and enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Champion) Hanson; one daughter, Paula F. Keller of Epping; one son, Paul D. Hanson of Pembroke; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Ernest W. Hanson of Ocala, Fla.; two stepsons, Donald Champion of Eaton, Colo., and James Champion of Kingston; two stepdaughters, Nancy Lanza of Newtown, Conn., and Carol Gould of Bethel, Maine; the mother of his children, Rosalie (Twombly) Hanson; and eight step grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in First Congregational Church, Kingston, with the Rev. David Thomas officiating. Family flowers only. Moore will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, Kingston. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston. Mrs. Moore died August 30, 2003. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Fredrica H. Raynes EXETER - Fredrica Hope (Moore) Flynn Raynes, 91, died Sept. 2, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. She was born April 18, 1912, in Littleton, the daughter of Fredrick and Bessie (Cummings) Moore and had resided in Lancaster before moving to Exeter. She was educated in Littleton schools and was an avid piano player and drama student. She was a 1934 graduate of Keene Normal School. Mrs. Raynes was employed by the federal government office of the Farmers Home Administration for 27 years. She was previously an executive secretary to the owner of the Mount Washington Hotel and was a teacher for a brief periodof time. She is survived by her husband, John C. Raynes of Exeter; four daughters, Patricia Pelletier of Georgetown, Mass.; Maureen LaCasse of Old Lyme, Conn., Sharon Turmelle of Weare and Fredrica Griffin of Raymond; four stepchildren, John Raynes Jr. of Keene, Katherine Norton of Exeter, Rebecca Hulick of Murphys, Calif., and Joe Raynes of Blue Hills, Maine; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Leona Gagnon of Littleton, and Blanche Flynn of Daytona, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, and one cousin She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Timothy P. Flynn, who died in 1947; one grandson, Michael LaCasse; one sister-in-law, Loretta Quail; and one brother-in-law, John Flynn. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Littleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Elsie M. Tobin RYE - Elsie Mae (Wadleigh) Kervin Tobin, 92, of 795 Washington Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Webster at Rye. She was born July 29, 1911, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of Frank A. and Emma F. (Sutherland) Wadleigh. She had resided in Kingston before moving to Rye. She was a 1930 graduate of Amesbury High School and the Wilfred Academy of Hair Design in Boston. Mrs. Tobin was a nurse’s aid at Amesbury Hospital and at area nursing homes, retiring from Rockingham County Nursing Home. She was a member of Union Congregational Church, Amesbury, and the Ladies Aid of the Baptist Church of Newton. She is survived by one son, Frank Kervin Sr. of Kensington; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred E. Eaton of Amesbury; and one niece. There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.
