Stevens BARRINGTON - Arthur G Stevens, 77, of 1 Melodie Lane, Barrington, died Oct. 8, 2003, at Pines in Newmarket. He was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Exeter, the son of the late John and Lena (Gove) Stevens. He was raised in Brentwood and graduated from the Sanborn Seminary in Kingston. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he became co-owner of the Stevens Dairy with his brother J Clinton Stevens. He was married to Ann (Robbins) Stevens and they moved to Kingston and lived there for more than 30 years. Following the sale of the dairy they moved to Barrington where he has resided for the past 14 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed candlepin bowling at the Exeter Lanes and 10-pin bowling in Raymond. He also enjoyed golfing with his brother Walter E Stevens. He was also a big fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was predeceased by his wife Ann in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sister, Marjorie S. Prina in 1999, and a brother, J. Clinton Stevens in 1999. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hunter, of Exeter R.I.; three sons, David Stevens of Saco, Maine, Phillip Stevens of Portsmouth and Eric Stevens of Barrington; four brothers, Richard S. Stevens of Kingston, Walter E. Stevens of Nottingham, Robert L. Stevens of Contoocook, Herbert E. Stevens of Brentwood; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Route 111A in Brentwood. The Rev. Kim McKerley will officiate. Surette, 84, of Raymond died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at Catholic Memorial Hospital in Manchester. She was born in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of the late Francis and Julia G. (Marley) Cotton. She was a longtime resident of Weston, Mass., and moved to New Hampshire 22 years ago, living in Epping and then in Raymond. Mrs. Surette enjoyed ceramics and her family. She is survived by her children, Ann Marie Penney of Gilbert, Ariz., Patricia Vanaria of Natick, Mass., Mary Linda Trudeau of Marlboro, Mass., Raymond L Surette Jr. of Alton Bay, Thomas C. Surette of Newmarket, and Frederick J. Surette of Raymond; her sisters, Gertrude Chicco of Watertown, Mass., Mildred Aucoin of Epping, Emily Delaney of Groton, Mass., Ruth Coffey of Watertown, Helen Corrigan of Waltham, and Marie Landry of Florida; her brothers, Francis Cotton Jr. of Waltham and Arthur Cotton of Framingham, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond L. Surette Sr., and a brother, Thomas Cotton. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church, 519 Main St., Waltham. Burial followed at Linwood Cemetery, Weston. Arrangements are by the Brasco & Sons Memorial, Waltham, Mass. Milton J. Phillips WINDHAM, Maine - Milton J. Phillips, 74, of Windham, Maine, formerly of East Kingston, died Sept. 29, 2003 in Portland, Maine. He was born in Randolph, Mass., and spent his early years in the Hampstead area before serving three years in the Korean conflict. He worked for Allen Shoe of Haverhill for much of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s while operating a television repair shop part-time. In 1980 he moved to Yuma, Ariz., and opened Phil’s TV Shop, which he operated until 1988. He then returned to East Kingston, and retired as a custodian at Hampstead Middle School. He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Philbrook of Raymond and April Phillips of Fort Myers, Fla; and two sons, Michael T. Phillips and Mark J. Phillips of Windham, Maine. Funeral services were held Saturday at the West Hampstead Cemetery. Catherine F. Richards EXETER - Catherine F. Richards, 81, of Exeter, formerly of Plaistow and Haverhill, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Hannah Duston Healthcare in Haverhill. She was born July 18, 1922 in Boston, the daughter of the late Philip J. and Mary A. (Griffin) McKenna. She was educated in the Dorchester, Mass. schools and was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s Academy in Hooksett. Mrs. Richards had been a resident of Exeter for the past five years and previously was a longtime resident of Haverhill and Plaistow. Until her retirement she had been associated with her husband’s business, Lannon & Richards, CPA, Main Street, Haverhill and the Richards Company in Plaistow. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman F. Richards who died Dec. 25, 1988 and her son, Mark P. Richards who died in 2001. Mrs. Richards is survived by three sons, Bryan M. Richards and his wife Karen of Hampton Falls, James C. Richards and his wife Laurie Howland of Danville, and John M. "Jack" Richards and his wife Beth of Exeter; and six grandchildren. The funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 15 in Holy Angels Church, Plaistow. Burial followed in Holy Angels Cemetery, East Road, Plaistow. Arrangements are by the C. Frank Linnehan & Sons Funeral Home, Haverhill, Mass. Jean A. Dodier HAVERHILL, Mass.- Jean A. Dodier, 74, of Haverhill, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Oxford in Haverhill. A native and lifelong resident of the city, Mr. Dodier attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and the former Haverhill Trade School. He first worked in the local shoe industry and later as a mechanic for many years for the city of Haverhill Highway Department, retiring in 1994. Mr. Dodier was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill. He is survived by his wife, Helen K. (Beede) Dodier; two daughters, Jean F. Dodier and her husband Joseph Callan of Seabrook and Gail M. Murphy and her husband Kevin of East Kingston; three brothers, Paul Dodier of Haverhill, George Dodier of Homosassa, Fla., and Robert Dodier of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Mildred Day and Alma Blinn of Haverhill and Corinne Guevin of Atkinson; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Mark S. Dodier. A funeral service was held Tuesday. Burial was private in Plaistow Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. Kathleen Mary Qualter EXETER - Kathleen Mary Qualter, 93, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 in Fremont. She was born Jan. 22, 1910 in City of Prince Albert, Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of the late Harry Lyons and Edith (McKay) Lyons. Mrs. Qualter married her husband in 1940 and at that time moved to the Reading and Stoneham area of Massachusetts. In 1963 she became a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1993 she moved to Exeter. She worked for many years at the Malden Hospital as a secretary and supply order clerk. Mrs. Qualter was a volunteer at Goodwin’s Nursing Home of Exeter and was active at the Rockingham Adult Day Care Program. She enjoyed painting and music. She is survived by her son William Qualter and his wife Patricia; her sister-in-law, Florence Murphy; and nieces and nephews at Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Canada. Mrs. Qualter was predeceased by her husband, William Qualter, who died in 1992. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday at St. Michael Church, Exeter. Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Brian P. Hennessey SANDOWN - Brian P. Hennessey, 38, of Sandown, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at his home. He was born in Haverhill, Mass., attended local schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1985. Mr. Hennessey recently moved to Sandown and was employed as an automobile technician by Cambridge Honda. He previously worked at Honda Cars of Boston. He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Parish of Haverhill and had recently served as a Cub Scout leader for Pack 12 of Haverhill. Mr. Hennessey is survived by his wife, Michelle L. (Yurik) Hennessey; a son, Christopher E. Cook and a daughter, Alyssa L. Cook, both of Sandown; his mother, Carole L. (Ducharme) Hennessey of Haverhill; two brothers, Matthew P. Hennessey and Sean E. Hennessey, both of Haverhill; a sister, Andrea M. Slavit of Haverhill; one uncle; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Aro HAVERHILL, Mass. - Priscilla L. (Antkowiak) Aro of Haverhill, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. A native and lifelong resident of the city, Mrs. Aro graduated Haverhill High School and also attended Interior Design School. She worked as a seamstress locally for many years and was recently employed as the functions hostess at Rockingham Park in Salem. Mrs. Aro also owned several thoroughbred race horses. A member of Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow, she was an accomplished violinist and pianist. Mrs. Aro is survived by her husband, Charles I. Aro; three sons, Michael C. Aro and his wife Linda of Atkinson, Paul D. Aro of Haverhill, and Kevin J. Aro of Plaistow; two daughters, Lisa M. Aro of Haverhill and Andrea C. Walsh and her husband Paul of Plaistow; four brothers, Edward Antkowiak of Lake Placid, Fla., Gerald Antkowiak of Reno, Nevada, Paul Antkowiak of Atkinson, and Marc Antkowiak of Annapolis, Md.; six grandchildren; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was held Thursday at Holy Angels Church. Burial was in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow. Arrangements are by the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. Daniel Cedar Campbell RAYMOND - Daniel Cedar Campbell, 81, of 3 Chester Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at his home. He was born May 7, 1922 in Eau Claire, Wis., the son of the late John and Addie (Buckley) Campbell. Mr. Campbell grew up and did his schooling in Wisconsin. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. After the war, he met and married Ruth (Raymond) Campbell and they moved to Raymond where they have spent the past 60 years. He was the founder and former owner of Raymond Building Supply. He was a member of the American Legion in Raymond and enjoyed playing cards, computer games, square dancing, playing the guitar, snowmobiling and fishing. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Campbell, of Raymond; two daughters, Terry Campbell of Derry and Cindy Tirrell of Raymond; one brother, Seth (Bud) Campbell of Oregon; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, David K. Campbell and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Raymond Congregational Church. Burial will follow in the New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond. Flowers are acceptable. Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. Edward K. Kinney MANCHESTER - Edward "Ned" K. Kinney, 62, of Manchester, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1941 in Portsmouth, the son of William and Mary Sylvia (Mills) Kinney. Mr. Kinney served in the U.S. Army and before his retirement had been a truck driver. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. David (Mary Ann) Moreland of Kingston and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Earl Kinney and two sisters, Nancy Hill and Barbara Kinney. A private graveside service will be held in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Arrangements are by the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, Manchester.
